Dirty Orange Cardamom Crush
Uses Orange Cardamom Syrup — make a batch ahead of time; it keeps in the fridge for a week or two, so you won't need to make it again for every drink.
Ingredients & steps
StandardIngredients
- 12oz Crush, cold
- 1 tbsp Orange Cardamom Syrup (make a batch ahead of time -- it keeps about 2 weeks in the fridge)
- 1oz (2 tbsp) half-and-half
- Ice (enough to fill a 16oz glass)
Steps
- 1.Make a batch of Orange Cardamom Syrup ahead of time if you haven't already -- keeps about 2 weeks in the fridge.
- 2.Fill a 16oz glass with ice.
- 3.Pour 1 tbsp of the syrup directly over the ice.
- 4.Pour 12oz cold Crush over the syrup and stir gently to dissolve it -- syrup mixes into cold soda more slowly than into hot espresso, so give it a real stir, not just a swirl.
- 5.Top with 1oz (2 tbsp) half-and-half -- pour it slowly over the back of a spoon so it sits in a visible layer instead of a starter cup, or stir it in fully if you prefer it blended. Serve immediately with a straw.

A soda, a flavored syrup, a splash of cream, no espresso anywhere in the build — that’s the dirty-soda format Swig and Sodalicious built their menus around before Dunkin’ took a version of it nationwide. This one runs on Crush instead of a cola or a clear citrus soda, using the same syrup jar as this site’s Orange Cardamom Latte.
Have the Syrup Made Ahead of Time
This build assumes Orange Cardamom Syrup is already in your fridge — the same jar behind the Orange Cardamom Latte, good for about 2 weeks. Make that first if you haven’t; from there this drink itself takes about 3 minutes.
Building the Drink
- Fill a 16oz glass with ice and pour 1 tbsp orange cardamom syrup over it.
- Orange sodas run heavier on syrup than clear sodas like Sprite do, which means Crush throws a bigger, longer-lasting foam head when poured. Pour it in slowly and give the foam 10-15 seconds to settle before you stir — pour too fast and it crests over the rim of a 16oz glass.
- Once the foam’s settled and the syrup’s stirred through, top with 1oz (2 tbsp) half-and-half.
Orange Crush and cream is already most of the way to a creamsicle on its own — real orange zest and cardamom in the syrup deepen the orange flavor that’s already there instead of introducing a competing one, and the cardamom keeps it from tasting one-note sweet.
The syrup batch itself is a separate one-time cost — see the full Orange Cardamom Syrup recipe for its batch price and method. Once it’s made, this drink’s marginal cost is really just the soda and the cream splash.
This assumes a $2.28 2-liter bottle of Crush (national-average grocery, non-sale) and a 1oz splash from a $3.49 quart of half-and-half — the Orange Cardamom Syrup batch is its own separate one-time cost, priced on its own recipe page. At 5 drinks a week over the site’s standard 48-week year, that’s about $1,008/year kept out of a soda-shop’s register.
Swaps & Notes
- Straight soda-and-syrup, no coffee involved — for the espresso version of the same orange-cardamom flavor, see the Orange Cardamom Latte.
- Want plain creamsicle instead of the cardamom warmth? Vanilla Syrup at the same 1 tbsp on the same Crush base gets you there with a simpler flavor.
- The soda outweighs the syrup on sugar here too — Crush runs about 52g/12oz on its own, more than any other soda on this list, so Sugar-Free Orange Cardamom Syrup plus a diet Crush does more than either swap alone.
- Lighter pour: 2 tsp of syrup and a diet Crush still deliver the creamsicle flavor without the full sugar load.

FAQ
Does this actually taste like a creamsicle?
Very close — Crush and cream alone gets you most of the way there, and real orange zest plus a little cardamom in the syrup pushes it further than plain orange soda and cream would on their own.
Why does this one foam up more than the other dirty sodas on the site?
Orange sodas carry more syrup content than clear sodas like Sprite or colas like Coke, and that extra syrup is what produces a thicker, longer-lived foam head when it’s poured over ice and syrup. Pouring it slowly and letting it settle for 10-15 seconds before stirring keeps it from overflowing a 16oz glass.
Is the cardamom flavor strong, or more of a background note?
Background — it’s dosed to add warmth and keep the orange from reading as one-note candy-sweet, not to announce itself as a spice. If you want it more prominent, an extra 1/4 tsp of ground cardamom whisked into the syrup batch itself (see the syrup’s own recipe) pushes it forward.
