This policy explains what information Be Your Own Barista ("we," "us," or "our") collects when you visit beyourownbarista.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. We built this site to respect your privacy by default, not as an afterthought — you'll see that reflected in what's below.

Who we are

Be Your Own Barista is a home-coffee content site based in South Carolina, USA. You can reach us at hello@beyourownbarista.com.

Information we collect

• Email address, if you sign up for our newsletter. That's it — we don't ask for your name, and there's no account or password to create anywhere on this site.
• Numbers you type into the savings calculator or a recipe's milk-swap tool stay in your own browser (via localStorage) so your running savings tally and milk preference persist between visits. We never see these numbers — they're not sent to us or stored on any server we control.
• Aggregate, anonymous traffic data via Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-focused analytics tool built into our hosting. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't collect or store personal data, and can't identify or track you individually across sites — it only tells us things like "how many people visited this page this week," not who you are.
• Standard technical server logs (like IP address and browser type) that our hosting provider collects automatically for security and performance, the same way virtually every website on the internet works. We don't actively use this data for anything beyond troubleshooting.

How we use your information

We use your email address to send the newsletter you signed up for — new articles, recipes, and gear picks, roughly weekly, with no spam and unsubscribe available at any time. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics' aggregate traffic data to understand which content is actually useful so we can write more of it. We don't sell your information to anyone, ever.

Cookies

We don't set tracking cookies ourselves — Cloudflare Web Analytics is cookie-free by design. Our newsletter signup form is provided by beehiiv, a third-party service, which may set its own cookies as part of operating that form; seebeehiiv's privacy policy for details on that. If we ever add display advertising (we might, down the road — see ourother honesty pages for how seriously we take saying so), that will involve third-party cookies too, and we'll update this policy before it happens, not after.

Third-party services and links

Some links on this site are affiliate links — if you buy something through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That's disclosed on the specific pages where it applies. When you click an affiliate or outbound link, you leave our site and become subject to that retailer's own privacy practices, which we don't control. We use beehiiv to run our newsletter and Cloudflare Web Analytics for analytics; both are named above.

Children's privacy

This site isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us their email address, contact us and we'll delete it.

Your choices and rights

• Unsubscribe from the newsletter anytime using the link in any email we send.
• Email us to ask what information we have about you, or to have your email address deleted from our list.
• Clear your browser's local storage anytime to remove the savings-tally/milk-preference data stored there — it's on your device, not ours, so you're always in control of it.

Data security

We take reasonable measures to protect the limited information we collect, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

If we materially change what we collect or how we use it — most likely when we add advertising or any account-based feature — we'll update this page and the date above, and for significant changes we'll say so in the newsletter.
