Be Your Own Barista publishes recipes with calorie counts and, sometimes, health-adjacent framing — "clean-ingredient," "no refined sugar," "sugar-free." This page says plainly what that content is, and isn't, meant to be.

This is informational content, not medical or nutritional advice

Nothing on this site is medical advice, a nutrition plan, or a substitute for guidance from a doctor, registered dietitian, or other qualified professional. We're a savings-and-recipes site run by home baristas, not clinicians. If you have diabetes, a caffeine sensitivity, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or manage any other health condition, talk to a professional before making one of our recipes — or any dietary change — part of your routine.

Calorie figures are estimates

Every calorie count on this site is built up from typical published values for the ingredients as written (a specific brand of milk, syrup, or protein powder, at a specific serving size) — not a lab analysis of a real batch. Swap an ingredient — a different milk, a different protein powder, a heavier pour — and the real number moves with it. Where a recipe lets you swap milk in the on-page calculator, the number updates live, but it's still an estimate built the same way, not a measurement.

What "clean-ingredient" and "sugar-free" mean here — and don't

"Clean-ingredient" describes our own editorial choice to build a recipe from whole ingredients (real fruit, maple, dates) instead of a processed syrup — it's a statement about what's in the recipe, not a claim that it's healthier, lower-calorie, or medically better for you than another tier. "Sugar-free" means the recipe swaps in a non-sugar sweetener (like monk fruit or allulose) in place of added sugar; it is not a claim about total carbohydrates, glycemic impact, or suitability for any specific medical diet. Read the ingredient list on the recipe itself if a specific ingredient matters to you or a condition you manage.

This is an ongoing effort

We're a small team going recipe by recipe, and we'd rather be upfront about the limits of that process than overstate it. If you spot a calorie figure or a health-adjacent claim that seems wrong, outdated, or unclear, tell us — see below.
