Accessibility Statement

We want anyone to be able to use this site — read a recipe, run the savings calculator, browse gear picks — regardless of how they browse the web, including with a keyboard alone, a screen reader, or magnification. We're aiming for the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. We haven't had a third-party audit or formal conformance review, so we're stating this as our target and our ongoing effort, not a certification.

What we've done

• A "Skip to content" link at the top of every page for keyboard users, so you can jump past the header and navigation straight to the page's main content.
• Semantic landmarks (header, navigation, main content, footer) and a logical heading order on every page, so screen reader users can navigate by structure.
• Every interactive tool — the café savings calculator, the milk-swap selector on recipes, the Hot/Iced toggle — is built from real, native form controls (buttons, selects, inputs) that work with a keyboard alone and show a visible focus outline, not custom widgets that only respond to a mouse.
• On narrow/mobile screens, the main navigation is reachable through a menu button in the header (labeled "Menu," with aria-expanded reflecting open/closed state) instead of only from the footer — operable with a keyboard alone (Enter/Space to open, Escape to close and return focus to the button) and with focus moving into the revealed menu when it opens.
• Form fields are paired with real, associated labels, and live updates (like the calculator's confirmation message) are announced to screen readers via ARIA live regions rather than only shown visually.
• Every meaningful image carries descriptive alt text; purely decorative graphics (like the cost-breakdown cup chart) are hidden from assistive tech in favor of the accessible data table next to them.
• Color contrast was checked against WCAG 2.1 AA text and UI-component minimums as part of the site's design work, and pages don't rely on color alone to convey the current tier or the current step of a toggle.

What's still in progress

This is an ongoing effort, not a finished checklist. A few known gaps: third-party embeds we don't fully control — the newsletter signup form — meet their own provider's accessibility standard, not necessarily ours. We test primarily with keyboard navigation and screen reader spot-checks rather than a full assistive-technology device lab, so issues we haven't personally hit are the ones most likely to still be out there.
