“Turtle” flavor — caramel, pecan, and usually chocolate — traces back to a real 1916 Chicago candy, when candymaker George DeMet added caramel to chocolate-covered pecans. Dunkin’ still sells a Turtle-flavored coffee (“Turtle Love”) built on the same profile. This drink keeps the clean caramel-and-pecan core, the same way pecan praline and caramel-pecan dessert sauce both stand on their own without needing chocolate — this version combines this site’s own Caramel Syrup and Butter Pecan Syrup.

Two Real Bases, Not a New Fused Syrup

This drink combines two syrups this site already has: 1 tbsp Caramel Syrup and 1 tbsp Butter Pecan Syrup, split evenly. No new syrup needed.

    Building the Latte

    1. Pull a double shot of espresso (about 2oz) directly into your cup, or brew a strong coffee/moka pot equivalent.
    2. Stir in 1 tbsp Caramel Syrup and 1 tbsp Butter Pecan Syrup while the espresso is still hot.
    3. Steam or froth 8oz of milk to about 150°F and pour it over the espresso mixture.
Specialty Café Turtle-Style Latte vs. Home Version
Specialty/independent-café caramel pecan latte (tax included)~$6.75
Home caramel pecan latte (espresso, milk, both bases)~$0.95
    Savings per drink$5.80

Assumptions: grande-size drink, independent/specialty-café pricing, dairy milk, $16/lb specialty beans or equivalent grocery beans. At 5 drinks a week over the site’s standard 48-week year, that’s roughly $1,392/year back in your pocket.

    Swaps & Notes

    • No espresso machine? A moka pot or strong AeroPress shot works fine.
    • Want the real Turtle flavor with chocolate? Add 1 tbsp Mocha Sauce on top of this base — that’s the three-way profile Dunkin’s Turtle Love coffee is built on.
    • Watching sugar? Swap in Sugar-Free Caramel Syrup and/or Sugar-Free Butter Pecan Syrup 1:1.

    Recipe Card Summary

    Caramel Pecan Latte

    • 2oz espresso + 8oz steamed milk + 1 tbsp Caramel Syrup + 1 tbsp Butter Pecan Syrup (both made ahead)
    • Prep time: 5 minutes (after both bases are made) · Total: 5 minutes
    • Cost: ~$0.95/drink vs. ~$6.75 specialty café equivalent

    FAQ

Is this just your Butter Pecan Latte with extra caramel?

No — the Butter Pecan Latte is built from Butter Pecan Syrup alone (which already has some brown-sugar caramelization in its own base); this drink adds a full second tbsp of real Caramel Syrup on top, a genuinely different, more caramel-forward drink.

Why isn’t there chocolate in this, if Turtle flavor usually has it?

This recipe matches the grid cell it was built from — a clean caramel-and-pecan pair. See the Swaps note above for how to add Mocha Sauce and get the full three-way Turtle profile.

Can I use the sugar-free versions of either base?

Yes — swap in Sugar-Free Caramel Syrup and/or Sugar-Free Butter Pecan Syrup 1:1; the ratios don’t change.
