Same drink, three ways. Ingredient-Honest is our top recommendation -- Standard and Sugar-Free are the other options.

Uses Butter Pecan Syrup — make a batch ahead of time; it keeps in the fridge for a week or two, so you won't need to make it again for every drink.

    Ingredients & steps

    Standard

Written hot. Switch to see the iced version's ingredients and steps.

    Ingredients

    • 2oz espresso (or 1/3 cup strong coffee/moka pot equivalent)
    • 8oz milk, steamed or frothed
    • 2 tbsp Butter Pecan Syrup (make a batch ahead of time -- it keeps about 1 week in the fridge)
    • Optional: whipped cream and a few chopped toasted pecans for topping

    Steps

    1. 1.Make a batch of Butter Pecan Syrup ahead of time if you haven't already -- it keeps in the fridge for about 1 week.
    2. 2.Pull a double shot of espresso (or brew strong coffee) directly into your serving cup.
    3. 3.Stir 2 tbsp of the butter pecan syrup into the hot espresso until fully combined.
    4. 4.Steam or froth 8oz of milk to about 150°F and pour over the espresso-syrup mixture.
    5. 5.Top with whipped cream and a few chopped toasted pecans if using. Serve immediately.

Calorie figures on this page are estimates based on typical ingredient values, not a lab analysis of your exact batch — they'll shift with the brand of milk, syrup, or protein powder you actually use. Butter pecan is a real technique, not just a nutty syrup flavor — browned butter is what gives it that toasty, almost caramelized richness before the pecan character even comes in. Once the syrup’s made, the drink itself takes about 2 minutes.

Make the Syrup First (Just Once)

This recipe assumes you already have a jar of Butter Pecan Syrup in the fridge — a 20-minute batch (mostly browning butter and cooling) that makes about 8 drinks’ worth. Because it contains real butter, it only keeps about a week, so this one’s worth making a bit more often than our shelf-stable syrups.

    Building the Latte

    1. Pull a double shot of espresso (about 2oz) directly into your cup, or brew a strong coffee/moka pot equivalent.
    2. Stir in 2 tbsp of the butter pecan syrup while the espresso is still hot.
    3. Steam or froth 8oz of milk to about 150°F and pour it over the espresso-syrup mix.
    4. Top with whipped cream and a few chopped toasted pecans if you want the full café look.
Café Butter Pecan Latte vs. Home Butter Pecan Latte
Café grande butter pecan latte (tax included)$6.05
Home butter pecan latte (espresso, milk, syrup)~$1.02
    Savings per drink$5.03

The syrup batch itself is a one-time ~$1.61 and makes about 8 drinks — see the full syrup recipe for the batch method and cost breakdown.

Assumptions: grande-size drink, national-average café pricing for a butter pecan flavored latte, dairy milk, $16/lb specialty beans or equivalent grocery beans, real butter and pecan extract at typical grocery pricing. Note this is also one of the higher-calorie syrups on the site — real butter carries real fat calories, which is honest math, not an oversight.

    Swaps & Notes

    • No espresso machine? A moka pot or strong AeroPress shot works fine.
    • Watching sugar or calories? See the Sugar-Free Butter Pecan Latte for a lower-sugar swap, or read the honest note on our Ingredient-Honest Butter Pecan Latte before assuming “real ingredients” means fewer calories here — it doesn’t.
    • Iced version: use the Hot/Iced toggle above the ingredients to switch — less milk (about 4oz cold over ice instead of 8oz steamed), same syrup and topping.
    • Want the real café-style candied-pecan topper instead of plain toasted pecans? A quick stovetop toss of pecan halves in butter and brown sugar (5-6 minutes, not a broiler — that doesn’t work the same way it does for marshmallows) gets you a glossy, crunchy topping — see our plating guide for the exact method.

    FAQ

Is this the same as your Maple Pecan Latte?

No — different base and different technique. This one is built on real browned butter and brown sugar (classic “butter pecan”); Maple Pecan is built on real maple syrup as its base flavor. Both are real nut-forward drinks, but genuinely different recipes.

Why does this syrup only keep a week?

It contains real butter, which is a dairy fat — dairy-containing syrups don’t hold up in the fridge as long as a plain sugar or maple syrup does.

Can I make this without an espresso machine?

Yes — a moka pot, AeroPress, or even strong drip coffee works.
