Banoffee Pie — toffee, banana, and cream, with no chocolate anywhere in it — is one of Britain’s most famous desserts. It was invented in 1971 by Nigel Mackenzie and Ian Dowding, owner and chef of the Hungry Monk Restaurant in Jevington, Sussex, and the name has stayed instantly recognizable ever since. A published “Banana Nut Toffee Latte” recipe (food.com) already offers toffee or English toffee syrup as a real alternative to caramel in a banana-and-nut latte, confirming the pairing works as a drink, not just a pie. This recipe keeps it to the clean toffee-and-banana core rather than the nut-syrup version.
Two Real Bases, Not a New Fused Syrup
This drink combines two syrups this site already has: 1 tbsp Buttered Toffee Syrup and 1 tbsp Banana Bread Syrup, split evenly. No new syrup needed.
Building the Latte
- Pull a double shot of espresso (about 2oz) directly into your cup, or brew a strong coffee/moka pot equivalent.
- Stir in 1 tbsp Buttered Toffee Syrup and 1 tbsp Banana Bread Syrup while the espresso is still hot.
- Steam or froth 8oz of milk to about 150°F and pour it over the espresso mixture.
- Top with whipped cream, matching the real pie’s finish.
Assumptions: grande-size drink, independent/specialty-café pricing (this is a smaller-batch specialty-menu item, not a standard chain pump-bottle syrup), dairy milk, $16/lb specialty beans or equivalent grocery beans. At 5 drinks a week over the site’s standard 48-week year, that’s roughly $1,394/year back in your pocket.
Swaps & Notes
- No espresso machine? A moka pot or strong AeroPress shot works fine.
- Want it more toffee-forward or more banana-forward? Shift the ratio to 1.5 tbsp of one and 0.5 tbsp of the other.
- Watching sugar? Swap in Sugar-Free Buttered Toffee Syrup and/or Sugar-Free Banana Bread Syrup 1:1.

Is Banoffee a real thing, or did you make up the name?
Real — Banoffee Pie is a genuine, famous British dessert invented in 1971 at the Hungry Monk Restaurant, built from toffee, banana, and cream with no chocolate involved.
How is this different from your Bananas Foster Latte?
The Bananas Foster Latte pairs banana with caramel; this drink pairs it with toffee instead — a related but distinct flavor, matching a different real dessert.
Can I use the sugar-free versions of either base?
Yes — swap in Sugar-Free Buttered Toffee Syrup and/or Sugar-Free Banana Bread Syrup 1:1; the ratios don’t change.
