Apple Matcha Latte
Uses Apple Syrup — make a batch ahead of time; it keeps in the fridge for a week or two, so you won't need to make it again for every drink.

Apple and matcha is a real, documented pairing, not one this site invented: Whole Foods Market publishes its own Apple Matcha Latte recipe (opens in new tab) directly, and Starbucks UK’s 2026 autumn menu runs an Iced Apple Crumble Matcha Latte as its first standalone autumn matcha concept in that market. This is the home version — whisked culinary matcha and real Apple Syrup, no dairy-free flax milk or crumble topping required, just the core flavor pairing.
Why This Doesn’t Use the Batched Matcha Syrup
This site’s existing Matcha Syrup is matcha already dissolved into a cane-sugar batch. The real apple-matcha recipes don’t work that way — they whisk plain matcha fresh and let a separate apple element (cider, apple butter, or in this case Apple Syrup) do the sweetening, the same reasoning our Maple Matcha Latte uses for why it skips the batched syrup too. Using the pre-sweetened Matcha Syrup here would mean two sugar sources stacked on top of each other instead of one clean sweetener.
Building the Latte
- Make a batch of Apple Syrup ahead of time if you haven’t already.
- Sift 1.5 tsp matcha into a 16oz glass and whisk in 2oz hot (not boiling) water until smooth.
- Stir in 1 tbsp Apple Syrup until fully combined.
- Fill the glass with ice, pour 6oz cold milk over it, and stir well.
Assumptions: grande-size drink, specialty/seasonal-menu pricing (this is an autumn specialty item at the chains that run it, not a year-round standard menu drink, the same framing this site uses for other fall-leaning recipes), dairy milk, culinary-grade matcha at typical online/specialty-grocery pricing, and this site’s own Apple Syrup. At 3 drinks a week over roughly 10 weeks of apple-matcha season, that’s about $158 saved versus buying it out.
Swaps & Notes
- Written iced on purpose. This is based on a specifically-iced viral format, with more milk (6oz) than this site’s usual 4oz iced pour. If you want it hot, whisk the matcha the same way, stir in the Apple Syrup, and pour 8oz steamed milk over it instead of building it over ice — see the FAQ below.
- No espresso machine needed. Matcha’s own caffeine carries this drink, same as our other matcha recipes.
- Want cinnamon in it? Whole Foods’ own version includes a pinch — add 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon when you whisk the matcha if you want that note.
- Watching sugar? This is Standard tier only for now.

FAQ
Is apple and matcha a real flavor pairing, or did you invent this?
Real — Whole Foods Market publishes its own Apple Matcha Latte recipe, and Starbucks UK sells an Iced Apple Crumble Matcha Latte as an autumn menu item. This recipe follows the same core pairing with this site’s own Apple Syrup standing in for the cider/crumble elements those versions use.
Can I make this hot instead of iced?
Yes, though we’ve written it iced since that’s the specifically-iced format this recipe is based on. Whisk the matcha and Apple Syrup the same way, then pour 8oz steamed milk over it instead of building it over ice with 6oz cold milk.
Why doesn’t this use your batched Matcha Syrup?
Because the Apple Syrup is already doing the sweetening — using the pre-sweetened Matcha Syrup on top of that would stack two sugar sources instead of one. Our Maple Matcha Latte skips the batched syrup for the same reason.
Do I need an espresso machine for this?
No — matcha’s own caffeine carries the drink, same as every other matcha recipe on this site.
