    Salted Caramel Protein Cold Brew

The BYOB Team5 min1 drink (from a batch of Salted Caramel Syrup that makes about 12 servings)$2.09/drink264 cal/drink

Uses Salted Caramel Syrup — make a batch ahead of time; it keeps in the fridge for a week or two, so you won't need to make it again for every drink.

    Ingredients & steps

    Standard

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup (8oz) Cold Brew Concentrate (homemade or store-bought)
    • 1 scoop (about 30g) whey protein powder, vanilla or unflavored
    • 4oz milk or milk alternative of choice
    • 2 tbsp Salted Caramel Syrup (make a batch ahead of time -- it keeps about 2 weeks in the fridge)
    • Ice, as needed
    • Optional: a pinch of flaky sea salt on top

    Steps

    1. 1.Add the whey protein to a shaker bottle with the milk first -- mixing powder into liquid before the coffee goes in is the single biggest trick to avoiding clumps.
    2. 2.Add the 2 tbsp Salted Caramel Syrup to the shaker as well, then shake for 15-20 seconds until completely smooth.
    3. 3.Fill a glass with ice, pour in the cold brew concentrate, then pour the protein-milk-syrup mixture over it.
    4. 4.Stir to combine. Finish with a pinch of flaky sea salt on top if using, and serve immediately with a straw.

This is the cold-brew, whey-protein sibling to our regular Salted Caramel Latte — same double-salted syrup, same finishing pinch of flaky salt, moved onto a cold brew base with a scoop of protein shaken in instead of steamed milk poured over espresso.

    3. Shake for 15-20 seconds until completely smooth.

    Savings per drink$4.86

Assumptions: homemade cold brew concentrate at this site’s standard $16/lb bean pricing, whey protein at ~$0.88/scoop, dairy milk, and a homemade Salted Caramel Syrup batch. At 5 drinks a week over the site’s standard 48-week year, that’s roughly $1,166/year back in your pocket.

    Swaps & Notes

    • Plain caramel instead of salted? Swap in Caramel Syrup for an unsalted version, or see our Protein Caramel Latte for a steamed-milk latte take on the same flavor.
    • Skip the salt pinch if you’re sodium-conscious — it’s a garnish, not load-bearing for the syrup’s flavor (the syrup itself is already “double-salted” per its own recipe).
    • Protein total: about 24g from the whey scoop, plus roughly 4g from the 4oz of dairy milk — around 28g total.

    FAQ

Does the salt in the syrup clash with the protein powder’s flavor?

No — salt and sweet is a well-established pairing, and most vanilla or unflavored wheys have a mild enough base flavor that the salted caramel comes through clearly as the dominant note.

How is this different from your regular Salted Caramel Latte?

That recipe is a hot (or iced) espresso-and-steamed-milk latte with no protein powder. This one is cold-brew-based with a whey scoop shaken in — different base, different protein content, same syrup.

Can I make this with decaf cold brew?

Yes — decaf cold brew concentrate works exactly the same way in this recipe; only the caffeine content changes, not the cost or protein math.
