Salted Caramel Cold Foam
Uses Salted Caramel Syrup — make a batch ahead of time; it keeps in the fridge for a week or two, so you won't need to make it again for every drink.
Ingredients & steps
StandardIngredients
- 1/3 cup (about 2.7oz) cold heavy cream (36%+ milkfat -- labeled "heavy whipping cream," not just "whipping cream")
- 1 tbsp Salted Caramel Syrup (make a batch ahead of time -- it keeps about 2 weeks in the fridge)
- Optional: a small pinch of flaky sea salt on top, to finish
Steps
- 1.Make sure the heavy cream is well-chilled -- straight from the fridge. Cold cream whips faster and holds a more stable foam.
- 2.Combine the cold heavy cream and salted caramel syrup in a tall, narrow jar or cup.
- 3.Froth with a handheld milk frother for 30-45 seconds, or blend in a blender on high for 15-20 seconds, or seal in a jar and shake vigorously for 45-60 seconds -- stop once it thickens into a pourable, softly mounded foam. This is NOT whipped cream: stop well before it holds stiff peaks.
- 4.Spoon or pour the foam over the top of your own iced coffee, cold brew, or latte -- it floats on top rather than mixing in, because it's less dense than the drink underneath.
- 5.Finish with a pinch of flaky sea salt if using. Serve immediately -- it holds its float for 10-15 minutes before starting to settle into the drink.

This is our cold foam base technique with real Salted Caramel Syrup whipped in — a topping, not a drink on its own. Spoon or pour it over a coffee, cold brew, or latte you’ve already made.
The Technique
Combine 1/3 cup cold heavy cream and 1 tbsp Salted Caramel Syrup in a tall, narrow container, then whip it one of three ways:
- Handheld milk frother wand: 30-45 seconds.
- Blender: 15-20 seconds on high.
- Shake by hand: seal in a jar and shake vigorously for 45-60 seconds.
Stop as soon as it’s thickened into a soft, pourable foam that mounds slightly — past that point it starts turning into stiff whipped cream, which is a different texture than what you want floating on a drink.
Assumptions: standard grocery-pricing heavy whipping cream (~$4.29/pint) and our own Salted Caramel Syrup batch cost. As with our other cold foam toppings, the real savings case is pairing this with a home-brewed coffee base rather than a café drink entirely — the topping charge alone is a small line item to begin with.
Real Stability Notes
- Cold cream whips faster and holds better than room-temperature cream.
- Best made fresh — it holds its floating layer for about 10-15 minutes on top of an iced drink before settling in, normal for real cold foam.
- Leftover foam keeps a few hours in the fridge but deflates — re-whip 10-15 seconds before reusing.
- Don’t over-whip past the soft-foam stage, or it turns into whipped cream and eventually butter.
Swaps & Notes
- Only have half-and-half? It’ll froth thinner and less stable than heavy cream’s 36%+ fat content.
- Want it saltier? Add the flaky salt garnish generously — the syrup itself carries a real double-salted flavor already, so this is purely a finishing touch, not where most of the salt comes from.
- Prefer a different flavor? See our Pumpkin, Vanilla Sweet Cream, or Coconut Cold Foam — same base technique, different syrup.

FAQ
Is this the same syrup as your Salted Caramel Latte and Affogato?
Yes — the exact same Salted Caramel Syrup batch, whipped into cream instead of stirred into espresso or drizzled over ice cream.
Can I skip the flaky salt garnish?
Yes — the syrup already carries real salt from its own batch, so the drink still reads as salted caramel without the extra pinch on top. The garnish is purely a textural/visual finish.
How long does the foam hold its shape on top of a drink?
About 10-15 minutes before it starts settling into the drink below, same as our other cold foam toppings.
