    Pistachio Protein Latte

The BYOB Team5 min1 drink (from a batch of Pistachio Syrup that makes about 12 servings)$1.79/drink340 cal/drink

Uses Pistachio Syrup — make a batch ahead of time; it keeps in the fridge for a week or two, so you won't need to make it again for every drink.

    Ingredients & steps

    Standard

Written hot. Switch to see the iced version's ingredients and steps.

    Ingredients

    • 2oz espresso (or 1/3 cup strong coffee/moka pot equivalent)
    • 8oz milk
    • 1 scoop (about 30g) whey protein powder, vanilla or unflavored
    • 2 tbsp Pistachio Syrup (make a batch ahead of time -- it keeps about 2 weeks in the fridge)

    Steps

    1. 1.Whisk the whey protein into the cold milk in a separate cup until fully smooth, before any heat is involved.
    2. 2.Pull a double shot of espresso (about 2oz) directly into your serving cup.
    3. 3.Stir 2 tbsp of Pistachio Syrup into the hot espresso until fully combined.
    4. 4.Steam or froth the protein-milk mixture to about 150°F and pour it over the espresso-syrup mixture.
    5. 5.Serve immediately.

Pistachio has been one of the fastest-growing specialty-café flavors of the past couple of years, and it’s also one of the pricier ones to order out — which makes it a good candidate for a protein add-on comparison. This is our regular Pistachio Latte with a scoop of whey blended into the milk.

    Building the Latte

    1. Make a batch of Pistachio Syrup ahead of time if you don’t have one.
    2. Whisk 1 scoop of whey protein into 8oz of cold milk until completely smooth.
    3. Pull a double shot of espresso into your cup and stir in 2 tbsp of the syrup while it’s hot.
    4. Steam or froth the protein-milk mixture and pour it over the espresso-syrup mix.
Café Protein Pistachio Latte vs. Home Version
    Specialty-café pistachio latte with a protein add-on~$7.25
    Home protein pistachio latte~$1.79
    Savings per drink$5.46

Assumptions: grande-size drink, specialty/trending-menu pricing for a pistachio latte plus a protein add-on (pistachio typically carries a premium over the site’s standard flavored-latte baseline, since it’s a trending rather than year-round-staple flavor at most chains), dairy milk, $16/lb specialty beans or equivalent grocery beans, whey protein at ~$0.88/scoop. No seasonal ceiling on this one. At 5 drinks a week over the site’s standard 48-week year, that’s roughly $1,310/year back in your pocket versus the café version.

    Swaps & Notes

    • Iced version: use the Hot/Iced toggle above the ingredients for less milk (4oz cold, shaken with the protein, instead of 8oz steamed).
    • Want a white-mocha twist? See our Pistachio White Mocha Latte for the non-protein combo version — add a whey scoop the same way our other protein lattes do if you want a protein take on that specific drink.
    • Protein total: about 24g from the whey scoop, plus roughly 8g from the 8oz of dairy milk — around 32g total (28g on the iced 4oz-milk version).

    Recipe Card Summary

    Pistachio Protein Latte

    • 2oz espresso + 8oz steamed milk (protein blended in) + 2 tbsp Pistachio Syrup
    • Prep time: 5 minutes · Total: 5 minutes
    • Cost: ~$1.79/drink vs. ~$7.25 café version · ~32g protein

    FAQ

Why is the café comparison price higher for this one than for caramel or vanilla?

Pistachio is a trending, specialty-menu flavor rather than a year-round staple at most chains, and it typically carries a small premium over a standard flavored latte — same logic as this site’s Cookie Butter Latte pricing.

Does real pistachio go into the syrup, or is it a flavor extract?

See Pistachio Syrup for the exact ingredient list and batch method — check that recipe’s ingredient list for the specific source used.

Can I add both pistachio syrup and a white chocolate sauce for the full café copycat?

Yes — see our Pistachio White Mocha Latte for that exact combination; add a whey scoop to it the same way this recipe adds one to the plain pistachio latte.
