    Mexican Mocha Latte

    The BYOB Team5 min1 drink (from a batch of Mocha Sauce)$0.95/drink214 cal/drink

Uses Mocha Sauce — make a batch ahead of time; it keeps in the fridge for a week or two, so you won't need to make it again for every drink.

    Ingredients & steps

    Standard

Written hot. Switch to see the iced version's ingredients and steps.

    Ingredients

    • 2oz espresso (or 1/3 cup strong coffee/moka pot equivalent)
    • 8oz milk, steamed or frothed
    • 2 tbsp Mocha Sauce (make a batch ahead of time -- it keeps about 2 weeks in the fridge)
    • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
    • Pinch of cayenne or chili powder (start small -- this is meant to be a warmth in the background, not heat up front)

    Steps

    1. 1.Make a batch of Mocha Sauce ahead of time if you haven't already.
    2. 2.Pull a double shot of espresso (or brew strong coffee) directly into your serving cup.
    3. 3.Stir in 2 tbsp of the mocha sauce, the cinnamon, and the pinch of cayenne/chili while the espresso is still hot, until fully combined.
    4. 4.Steam or froth 8oz of milk to about 150°F and pour over the espresso mixture.
    5. 5.Serve immediately, with an extra dusting of cinnamon on top if you like.

Calorie figures on this page are estimates based on typical ingredient values, not a lab analysis of your exact batch — they'll shift with the brand of milk, syrup, or protein powder you actually use. Cinnamon-and-chili chocolate coffee is a real, well-established genre — “Mexican Mocha” or “Aztec Mocha” recipes are published independently by Spiceology, Whisk Affair, Hola Jalapeño, Chocolate Moosey, Carnation, and The Daily Meal, all built on the same real idea: ground cinnamon plus a pinch of cayenne or chili powder stirred into cocoa and coffee. This is genuinely different from this site’s existing plain Mocha — the spice changes the whole character of the drink, not just the sweetness.

A Real Spice Addition, Not a New Syrup

This uses the existing Mocha Sauce at its normal 2 tbsp dose, plus a straight spice addition — 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon and a pinch of cayenne or chili powder, stirred in directly rather than built into a syrup. That matches how every real Mexican Mocha recipe checked actually does it (whisked spice, not a separate spiced syrup), and keeps the cost close to a plain Mocha since raw spices cost next to nothing.

    Building the Latte

    1. Pull a double shot of espresso (about 2oz) directly into your cup, or brew a strong coffee/moka pot equivalent.
    2. Stir in 2 tbsp Mocha Sauce, 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon, and a pinch of cayenne or chili powder while the espresso is still hot.
    3. Steam or froth 8oz of milk to about 150°F and pour it over the espresso mixture.
Specialty Café Mexican Mocha vs. Home Version
    Specialty/independent-café Mexican mocha (tax included)~$6.75
Home Mexican mocha latte (espresso, milk, sauce, spices)~$0.95
    Savings per drink$5.80

Assumptions: grande-size drink, independent/specialty-café pricing (this is a smaller-batch specialty-menu item at most chains, not a pump-bottle syrup), dairy milk, real cinnamon and chili powder at typical grocery pricing. At 5 drinks a week over the site’s standard 48-week year, that’s roughly $1,392/year back in your pocket versus the café version.

    Swaps & Notes

    • No espresso machine? A moka pot or strong AeroPress shot works fine.
    • Want more heat? Add a second pinch of cayenne — start small, since it’s easy to overshoot.
    • No cayenne on hand? A pinch of regular chili powder (not a chili-lime blend) works too.
    • Watching sugar? Swap in Sugar-Free Mocha Sauce 1:1 — the spices stay the same either way.

    FAQ

Is this actually a real drink, or an invented combination?

Real — “Mexican Mocha” and “Aztec Mocha” are an established recipe genre published independently by at least half a dozen food and spice sites, all using the same cinnamon-plus-chili-into-cocoa idea.

Will the chili make it spicy?

Only a background warmth at the pinch amount this recipe uses — it’s meant to round out the chocolate, not read as a spicy drink. Add more if you want it hotter.

How is this different from your Chai Latte or Snickerdoodle Latte?

Both of those lean on cinnamon too, but neither has chocolate or chili — this is the only cinnamon-plus-chocolate-plus-chili drink on the site.
