    Birthday Cake Protein Latte

The BYOB Team5 min1 drink (from a batch of Birthday Cake Syrup that makes about 12 servings)$1.78/drink340 cal/drink

Uses Birthday Cake Syrup — make a batch ahead of time; it keeps in the fridge for a week or two, so you won't need to make it again for every drink.

    Ingredients & steps

    Standard

Written hot. Switch to see the iced version's ingredients and steps.

    Ingredients

    • 2oz espresso (or 1/3 cup strong coffee/moka pot equivalent)
    • 8oz milk
    • 1 scoop (about 30g) whey protein powder, vanilla or unflavored
    • 2 tbsp Birthday Cake Syrup (make a batch ahead of time -- it keeps about 2 weeks in the fridge)
    • Optional: rainbow sprinkles on top

    Steps

    1. 1.Whisk the whey protein into the cold milk in a separate cup until fully smooth, before any heat is involved.
    2. 2.Pull a double shot of espresso (about 2oz) directly into your serving cup.
    3. 3.Stir 2 tbsp of Birthday Cake Syrup into the hot espresso until fully combined.
    4. 4.Steam or froth the protein-milk mixture to about 150°F and pour it over the espresso-syrup mixture.
    5. 5.Top with a pinch of sprinkles if using. Serve immediately.

This is our regular Birthday Cake Latte with a scoop of whey blended into the milk — same real Birthday Cake Syrup, same optional sprinkle topping, just built to also carry a real protein number.

    Building the Latte

    1. Make a batch of Birthday Cake Syrup ahead of time if you don’t have one.
    2. Whisk 1 scoop of whey protein into 8oz of cold milk until completely smooth.
    3. Pull a double shot of espresso into your cup and stir in 2 tbsp of the syrup while it’s hot.
    4. Steam or froth the protein-milk mixture and pour it over the espresso-syrup mix. Top with sprinkles if you want the full look.
Café Protein Birthday Cake Latte vs. Home Version
Drive-thru-chain birthday cake latte with a protein add-on~$7.25
    Home protein birthday cake latte~$1.78
    Savings per drink$5.47

Assumptions: grande-size drink, drive-thru-chain pricing for a specialty flavored latte plus a protein add-on, dairy milk, $16/lb specialty beans or equivalent grocery beans, standard rainbow sprinkles at typical grocery pricing, whey protein at ~$0.88/scoop. No seasonal ceiling on this one. At 5 drinks a week over the site’s standard 48-week year, that’s roughly $1,313/year back in your pocket versus the café version.

    Swaps & Notes

    • Iced version: use the Hot/Iced toggle above the ingredients for less milk (4oz cold, shaken with the protein, instead of 8oz steamed).
    • Want a more grown-up dessert flavor instead? See our Snickerdoodle Protein Latte or Honey Cinnamon Protein Latte for less sprinkle-forward alternatives.
    • Protein total: about 24g from the whey scoop, plus roughly 8g from the 8oz of dairy milk — around 32g total (28g on the iced 4oz-milk version).

    FAQ

Do the sprinkles add meaningful calories or protein?

No — a pinch (about 1/2 tsp) of standard rainbow sprinkles adds roughly 10-15 calories and no protein. They’re a garnish, not a calorie or protein factor in this recipe’s math.

Does the protein powder clash with the almond/vanilla cake flavor?

Not with a vanilla or unflavored whey — the syrup’s almond and vanilla notes are the dominant flavor either way. A strongly chocolate-flavored protein is the one combination that muddies this specific flavor profile.

Can I make this without an espresso machine?

Yes — a moka pot, AeroPress, or strong drip coffee all work in place of the espresso shot, same as every other latte-format recipe on this site.
