Not medical or nutrition advice. Calorie figures on this page are estimates based on typical ingredient values, not a lab analysis of your exact batch — they'll shift with the brand of milk, syrup, or protein powder you actually use. "Ingredient-Honest" and "sugar-free" describe what's in the recipe, not a health claim. If you're managing diabetes, a caffeine sensitivity, pregnancy, or another condition, check with a doctor or dietitian before making a recipe part of your routine. Read the full disclaimer.
Same energy-drink build as our Strawberry Energy Cooler, swapped to dragonfruit and mango — a real, purchasable sugar-free energy drink as the caffeine source, with muddled fruit standing in for a flavor syrup. Dragonfruit is the pricier ingredient in this one, which is reflected honestly in the cost math below. No coffee anywhere in this recipe.
Building the Drink
- Muddle 1.5oz dragonfruit in the bottom of a 16oz glass.
- Add 1oz diced mango.
- Fill the glass with ice.
- Pour in 8oz sugar-free energy drink and stir in 1 tbsp simple syrup.
Assumptions: a 16oz drive-thru energy drink with a specialty fruit flavor (these tend to run a little higher than a plain flavor at most stands), a single sugar-free energy drink can, frozen dragonfruit cubes, and diced mango at typical grocery pricing. At 5 of these a week over the site’s standard 48-week year, that’s roughly $1,121/year back in your pocket versus buying it out.
Swaps & Notes
- Dragonfruit drives the cost here — see our Mango Dragonfruit Cooler for sourcing notes on frozen pitaya cubes if your store doesn’t carry them.
- No dragonfruit on hand? Skip it and double the mango — you’ll lose some of the pink color but keep the tropical flavor direction.
- Want a “soft top”? A small coconut milk or coconut cream float works well here too, same as our other energy builds — optional, not included in the base math.

FAQ
Why is this pricier than the Strawberry Energy Cooler?
Frozen dragonfruit is a genuinely pricier ingredient than frozen strawberries — it’s a specialty item at most grocery stores, not a bulk commodity fruit, and that cost shows up directly in the per-drink math.
Can I make the caffeine-free version of this instead?
Yes — see our Mango Dragonfruit Cooler, which uses the same fruit but no energy drink, or Dragonfruit Coconut Cooler for the coconut-milk version.
How much caffeine is in this drink?
Roughly 130-135mg from the 8oz portion of a typical 200mg/12oz sugar-free energy drink — in the ballpark of a strong double espresso shot, though it varies by brand.
