Iced Coffee Energy Concentrate (Doubleshot-Style)
Ingredients & steps
StandardIngredients
- 4oz double-strength brewed coffee, or two double shots of espresso (4oz total)
- 3 tbsp heavy cream (or half-and-half, for a lighter version)
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar (or simple syrup, to taste)
- Ice, for shaking
- Water, to thin if desired (optional)
Steps
- 1.Brew 4oz double-strength coffee, or pull two double shots of espresso (4oz total). Let cool to room temperature or refrigerate briefly -- don't shake it hot.
- 2.In a cocktail shaker or lidded jar, combine the cooled coffee/espresso, heavy cream, and sugar with a handful of ice.
- 3.Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds -- this is what gives it the light, slightly frothy cap real bottled coffee-energy drinks have, not just stirring the ingredients together.
- 4.Strain into a bottle or jar (leave the shaking ice behind), seal, and refrigerate.
- 5.Serve cold, over fresh ice. Keeps sealed in the fridge for 3-5 days, the same as an opened store-bought bottle.
Not medical or nutrition advice. Calorie figures on this page are estimates based on typical ingredient values, not a lab analysis of your exact batch — they'll shift with the brand of milk, syrup, or protein powder you actually use. "Ingredient-Honest" and "sugar-free" describe what's in the recipe, not a health claim. If you're managing diabetes, a caffeine sensitivity, pregnancy, or another condition, check with a doctor or dietitian before making a recipe part of your routine. Read the full disclaimer.
This is not a Starbucks recipe, and we don’t have access to one. What we’ve built instead is our own from-scratch version of the format — a bottled, fridge-stable, cream-and-sugar coffee concentrate, shaken over ice for that characteristic light foam — benchmarked against what a real “Doubleshot”-style bottled energy coffee costs at retail. We’re using comparative, “-style” language throughout this page on purpose: this is a copycat of a product category, not a clone of any single brand’s formula.
Building the Concentrate
- Brew 4oz double-strength coffee, or pull two double shots of espresso (4oz total). Let it cool — shaking hot liquid in a sealed shaker is a real safety hazard, not just a flavor issue.
- Combine the cooled coffee/espresso, 3 tbsp heavy cream, and 2 tbsp sugar with ice in a shaker or lidded jar.
- Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds — longer and harder than you’d shake a typical cocktail, since the goal is real aeration, not just mixing.
- Strain into a bottle or jar, leaving the shaking ice behind, seal, and refrigerate.
- Serve cold over fresh ice.
Assumptions: $16/lb specialty beans or equivalent grocery beans for the coffee, heavy cream and sugar at typical grocery pricing, and a representative single-can retail price for a bottled cream-and-sugar energy coffee product — prices vary by brand and region. At 5 bottles a week over the site’s standard 48-week year, that’s roughly $506/year back in your pocket versus buying it pre-made.
Swaps & Notes
- This is a concentrate, not a diluted drink. 4oz of double-strength coffee plus cream and sugar is genuinely strong — pour it over a full glass of ice, and add a splash of milk or water if you want it less intense, or drink it in two smaller pours instead of one.
- Want it lighter? Half-and-half instead of heavy cream cuts the calories meaningfully while keeping the creamy mouthfeel, at the cost of a slightly thinner texture.
- No shaker? A lidded mason jar works exactly the same way — shake hard enough that you can hear the ice moving, not just tip it back and forth.

FAQ
Is this the same recipe as Starbucks’ Doubleshot?
No — we don’t have their formula, and we’re not claiming this replicates it exactly. This is our own from-scratch version built to match the bottled, creamy, sweet, high-caffeine format those products occupy, not a reverse-engineered clone.
How much caffeine is in one bottle?
Using two double espresso shots (4oz total), that’s roughly 256mg of caffeine in an 8oz bottle — genuinely strong for the volume, which is the point of a “concentrate.” Dilute it or split it into two smaller servings if that’s more caffeine than you want at once.
How long does it actually keep in the fridge?
About 3-5 days sealed, the same practical window as an opened store-bought bottle of a similar dairy-based cold coffee drink. Give it a shake before pouring each time, since the cream can settle.
