Hot Honey Latte
Uses Hot Honey Syrup — make a batch ahead of time; it keeps in the fridge for a week or two, so you won't need to make it again for every drink.
Ingredients & steps
StandardWritten hot. Switch to see the iced version's ingredients and steps.
Ingredients
- 2oz espresso (or 1/3 cup strong coffee/moka pot equivalent)
- 8oz milk, steamed or frothed
- 1 tbsp Hot Honey Syrup (make a batch ahead of time -- it keeps well over a month, sealed)
- Optional: an extra drizzle of hot honey syrup on top, for looks and a bit more heat
Steps
- 1.Make a batch of Hot Honey Syrup ahead of time if you haven't already.
- 2.Pull a double shot of espresso (about 2oz) directly into your serving cup, or brew strong coffee.
- 3.Stir 1 tbsp of the hot honey syrup into the hot espresso until fully combined -- it dissolves faster while the espresso's still hot.
- 4.Steam or froth 8oz of milk to about 150°F and pour over the espresso-syrup mixture.
- 5.Add an extra drizzle of syrup on top if using. Serve immediately.

Hot honey’s jump from pizza and fried chicken to coffee menus is the “swicy” (sweet + spicy) trend in one drink — real chili-infused honey, stirred into espresso and steamed milk. It’s a gentle, building warmth, not a stunt-food dare.
Make the Syrup First (Just Once)
This recipe assumes you already have a jar of Hot Honey Syrup in the fridge or pantry — it keeps notably longer than our other syrups (honey resists spoilage on its own) and covers about 16 drinks. If you haven’t made a batch yet, go do that first, then come back here.
Building the Latte
- Pull a double shot of espresso (about 2oz) directly into your cup, or brew strong coffee.
- Stir in 1 tbsp of the hot honey syrup while the espresso is still hot — it dissolves faster and blends better this way.
- Steam or froth 8oz of milk to about 150°F and pour it over the espresso-syrup mix.
- Add an extra drizzle on top if you want more visible heat and a stronger first taste.
The syrup batch itself is a one-time ~$5.35 and makes about 16 drinks — see the full syrup recipe for the batch method and an honest note on why honey costs more than our sugar-based syrups. Assumptions: dairy milk, $16/lb specialty beans or equivalent grocery beans, and a specialty-café price reflecting this drink’s current trend positioning rather than a standardized national-chain price.
Swaps & Notes
- No espresso machine? A moka pot or strong AeroPress shot both work fine.
- Too spicy or not spicy enough? Adjust the chili quantity or steep time in the syrup batch itself (see that recipe’s Swaps & Notes) — the latte assembly stays the same either way.
- Watching sugar? This is Standard-tier only for now; honey is the sweetener here rather than refined cane sugar, but it’s still a real sugar source, not a low-sugar option.
- Iced version: use the Hot/Iced toggle above the ingredients to switch — less milk (4oz cold over ice instead of 8oz steamed), same syrup either way.

FAQ
How spicy does this actually taste in a latte?
Milk mellows the heat further, so expect a gentle, building warmth after the initial sip rather than any sharp bite — more “sweet with a kick” than genuinely spicy. Adjust the syrup’s chili level (see that recipe) if you want more or less.
Why does this drink cost more than most of your other lattes?
Because real honey is a genuinely pricier base ingredient than granulated sugar, and we’re not hiding that — see the Hot Honey Syrup recipe for the full honest cost breakdown. It’s still real savings against a specialty café price, just a smaller margin than our cane-sugar-syrup lattes show.
Can I use store-bought hot honey instead of making the syrup?
Yes — swap in 1 tbsp of any store-bought hot honey (like Mike’s Hot Honey) for our homemade syrup; the assembly steps are identical. The cost math above assumes the homemade version specifically.
