Coconut Cardamom Latte
Uses Toasted Coconut Syrup — make a batch ahead of time; it keeps in the fridge for a week or two, so you won't need to make it again for every drink.
Ingredients & steps
StandardWritten hot. Switch to see the iced version's ingredients and steps.
Ingredients
- 2oz espresso (or 1/3 cup strong coffee/moka pot equivalent)
- 8oz milk, steamed or frothed (dairy or coconut milk both work -- Chatelaine's own version is dairy-free, see the milk-swap options)
- 2 tbsp Toasted Coconut Syrup (make a batch ahead of time -- it keeps about 2 weeks in the fridge)
- 1 tbsp Cardamom Syrup (make a batch ahead of time -- it also keeps about 2 weeks)
- Optional: a pinch of extra toasted coconut flakes on top
Steps
- 1.Make a batch each of Toasted Coconut Syrup and Cardamom Syrup ahead of time if you haven't already.
- 2.Pull a double shot of espresso (or brew strong coffee) directly into your serving cup.
- 3.Stir in 2 tbsp of the toasted coconut syrup and 1 tbsp of the cardamom syrup while the espresso is still hot, until both are fully combined.
- 4.Steam or froth 8oz of milk to about 150°F and pour over the espresso mixture. Dairy milk is the default here, but coconut milk is the closer match to Chatelaine's own dairy-free version if you want to lean into it further.
- 5.Top with a pinch of extra toasted coconut flakes if using. Serve immediately.

Coconut and cardamom is a real, named pairing with roots in South and Southeast Asian flavor traditions — Chatelaine (opens in new tab) publishes a “Cardamom and Coconut Latte” recipe, built dairy-free and partnered with Silk, and VegNews runs a Cardamom Rose Chai Coconut Latte variant in the same spirit. This drink is that pairing, built from two syrups this site already has.
Two Existing Syrups, No New Jar
This drink combines 2 tbsp Toasted Coconut Syrup with 1 tbsp Cardamom Syrup — coconut as the lead flavor, cardamom as a warm spice accent, the same unequal-ratio logic this site uses whenever one flavor is meant to lead and the other to support (see Lavender Matcha Latte for the same pattern with a different pair).
Building the Latte
- Pull a double shot of espresso (about 2oz) directly into your cup, or brew a strong coffee/moka pot equivalent.
- Stir in 2 tbsp Toasted Coconut Syrup and 1 tbsp Cardamom Syrup while the espresso is still hot.
- Steam or froth 8oz of milk to about 150°F and pour it over the espresso mixture. Dairy milk works fine, but coconut milk is the closer match to Chatelaine’s own dairy-free version if you want the coconut flavor doubled up.
- Top with a pinch of extra toasted coconut flakes if you want the full look.
Assumptions: grande-size drink, specialty-cafe pricing (same baseline this site’s own Toasted Coconut Latte uses, since coconut lattes are mostly a specialty-menu item rather than a standardized national-chain drink), dairy milk, real cardamom pods and coconut flakes at typical grocery pricing. At 5 drinks a week over the site’s standard 48-week year, that’s roughly $1,241/year back in your pocket versus the cafe version.
Swaps & Notes
- No espresso machine? A moka pot or strong AeroPress shot works fine.
- Want the coconut flavor louder, closer to Chatelaine’s dairy-free version? Swap in the coconut milk option above instead of dairy.
- Want it more cardamom-forward? Shift to an even 1.5 tbsp each — the math above assumes coconut as the lead.
- Watching sugar? This is Standard tier only for now.
- Iced version: use the Hot/Iced toggle above the ingredients to switch — less milk (4oz cold over ice instead of 8oz steamed).

FAQ
Is this a real drink or a made-up flavor pairing?
Real — Chatelaine publishes a named “Cardamom and Coconut Latte” recipe (dairy-free, partnered with Silk), and VegNews runs a related Cardamom Rose Chai Coconut Latte. It’s a genuine South/Southeast Asian flavor pairing, not something invented for this site.
Do I have to use coconut milk to make this taste like coconut?
No — the toasted coconut syrup carries the flavor on its own, so regular dairy milk works fine. Coconut milk is offered as a swap if you want to match Chatelaine’s dairy-free version more closely.
Can I make this without an espresso machine?
Yes — a moka pot, AeroPress, or even strong drip coffee works fine.
