    Chocolate Macadamia Frappé

The BYOB Team5 min1 drink (from a batch of Chocolate Macadamia Syrup that makes about 12 servings)$0.73/drink163 cal/drink

Uses Chocolate Macadamia Syrup — make a batch ahead of time; it keeps in the fridge for a week or two, so you won't need to make it again for every drink.

    Ingredients & steps

    Standard

    Ingredients

    • 2oz espresso, freshly pulled (or 1/3 cup strong coffee/cold brew)
    • 2 tbsp Chocolate Macadamia Syrup (make a batch ahead of time -- it keeps about 2 weeks in the fridge)
    • 1.5 cups ice (about 10-12 standard cubes)
    • 4oz cold milk
    • Optional: whipped cream and chopped toasted macadamias for topping

    Steps

    1. 1.Make a batch of Chocolate Macadamia Syrup ahead of time if you haven't already -- it keeps in the fridge for about 2 weeks.
    2. 2.Pull a double shot of espresso (or brew strong coffee/cold brew) -- no need to cool it first, it chills fast against the ice in the next step.
    3. 3.Add the espresso, chocolate macadamia syrup, ice, and cold milk to a blender.
    4. 4.Blend on high for 30-45 seconds, until smooth and slushy with no ice chunks left.
    5. 5.Pour into a 16oz glass. Top with whipped cream and chopped toasted macadamias if using. Serve immediately with a straw -- frappés separate fast, this isn't a make-ahead drink.

Our Chocolate Macadamia Latte gets poured over ice for its iced build; this is the same syrup and the same espresso, but actually blended with ice into a milkshake-thick frappé instead. The same jar of syrup covers both drinks, so if you already keep one in the fridge for the latte, this is just a blender away.

Make the Syrup First (Just Once)

This recipe assumes you already have a jar of Chocolate Macadamia Syrup in the fridge — a 40-minute batch (mostly toasting, steeping, and cooling) that makes about 12 drinks’ worth and keeps 2 weeks. If you haven’t made a batch yet, go do that first, then come back here.

    Building the Frappé

    1. Pull a double shot of espresso (about 2oz), or brew strong coffee/cold brew instead.
    2. Add the espresso, 2 tbsp of the chocolate macadamia syrup, 1.5 cups of ice, and 4oz cold milk to a blender.
    3. Blend on high for 30-45 seconds until smooth and slushy — no ice chunks left.
    4. Pour into a 16oz glass, top with whipped cream and chopped toasted macadamias if you want the full café look, and serve immediately with a straw.
Café Chocolate Macadamia Frappé vs. Home Version
Café grande chocolate macadamia Frappuccino-style blended drink (specialty-menu pricing)$6.75
Home chocolate macadamia frappé (espresso, milk, ice, syrup)~$0.73
    Savings per drink$6.02

The syrup batch itself is a one-time ~$2.49 and makes about 12 drinks — see the full syrup recipe for the toast-and-steep method and cost breakdown. It’s the same batch that covers the latte too, so if you already make it for that, this drink adds no new prep.

Assumptions: grande-size blended drink, national-average specialty-menu pricing (chocolate macadamia isn’t a standard chain item, so this reflects a representative specialty/indie-café price), dairy milk, $16/lb specialty beans or equivalent grocery beans. At 5 chocolate macadamia frappés a week over the site’s standard 48-week year, that’s roughly $1,445/year back in your pocket versus the café version.

    Swaps & Notes

    • No espresso machine? Strong cold brew or a double-strength moka pot shot both work fine — cold brew actually blends a little better since it’s already cold.
    • Want it thicker or thinner? More ice makes it thicker and more milkshake-like; less ice (or a splash more milk) loosens it up.
    • Watching sugar? We haven’t built Sugar-Free or Ingredient-Honest tiers of the Frappé format yet — this is Standard-tier only for now.
    • Prefer it poured over ice instead of blended? That’s just the Chocolate Macadamia Latte’s iced build — same ingredients, poured instead of blended.

    FAQ

Is a frappé just an iced latte with ice blended in?

Not quite — the ice is an actual ingredient here, not just a chilling method. Blending it into the drink is what gives a frappé its thick, slushy texture, versus an iced latte’s chilled-but-still-liquid pour.

Can I make this without a blender?

Not really — the blended ice is the whole point of the format. If you don’t have a blender, the iced Chocolate Macadamia Latte uses the same ingredients poured over ice instead.

Do I need to make the syrup every time?

No — one batch keeps about 2 weeks in the fridge and covers roughly 12 drinks across the latte and frappé versions combined, so this page is just the 5-minute blend-and-pour step.
