    Ingredient-Honest Salted Caramel Latte

The BYOB Team4 min1 drink (from a batch of Maple Salted Caramel Syrup that makes about 9 servings)$1.48/drink248 cal/drink

Compare the 3 tiers of this drink

Same drink, three ways. Ingredient-Honest is our top recommendation -- Standard and Sugar-Free are the other options.

Uses Maple Salted Caramel Syrup — make a batch ahead of time; it keeps in the fridge for a week or two, so you won't need to make it again for every drink.

    Ingredients & steps

    Ingredient-Honest

Written hot. Switch to see the iced version's ingredients and steps.

    Ingredients

    • 2oz espresso (or 1/3 cup strong coffee/moka pot equivalent)
    • 8oz whole milk (or full-fat oat milk), steamed or frothed
    • 2 tbsp Maple Salted Caramel Syrup (make a batch ahead of time -- it keeps about 2 weeks in the fridge)
    • 1/4 tsp flaky sea salt (such as Maldon), for finishing
    • Optional: whipped cream (real heavy cream, whipped -- canned whipped topping isn't part of this tier's ingredient standard) and a caramel drizzle for topping

    Steps

    1. 1.Make a batch of Maple Salted Caramel Syrup ahead of time if you haven't already -- it keeps about 2 weeks in the fridge.
    2. 2.Pull a double shot of espresso (or brew strong coffee) directly into your serving cup.
    3. 3.Stir in 2 tbsp of the maple salted caramel syrup while the espresso is hot until fully combined.
    4. 4.Steam or froth 8oz of whole milk or full-fat oat milk to about 150°F and pour over the espresso mixture.
    5. 5.Finish with a pinch of flaky sea salt sprinkled directly on top of the foam. Top with whipped cream (real, not canned) and an extra drizzle of syrup if using, then a second small pinch of salt.

Not medical or nutrition advice. Calorie figures on this page are estimates based on typical ingredient values, not a lab analysis of your exact batch — they'll shift with the brand of milk, syrup, or protein powder you actually use. "Ingredient-Honest" and "sugar-free" describe what's in the recipe, not a health claim. If you're managing diabetes, a caffeine sensitivity, pregnancy, or another condition, check with a doctor or dietitian before making a recipe part of your routine. Read the full disclaimer.

Same honest note as our Ingredient-Honest Caramel Latte: caramel is sugar by definition, so unlike our Ingredient-Honest Vanilla or Mocha recipes, there’s no way to make a “real food” salted caramel that’s meaningfully lower in sugar or calories. This version swaps refined cane sugar for real maple syrup and keeps the same double-salted method (salt cooked into the syrup, plus a finishing pinch) — that’s the whole upgrade.

What “Ingredient-Honest” Means Here (and What It Doesn’t)

This tier replaces the Salted Caramel Syrup’s browned cane sugar with real maple syrup, reduced the same way — no refined white sugar, an ingredient list you could read off the label without a dictionary. What it doesn’t do: make the drink lower in calories or added sugar than the Standard version. If lower sugar is your actual goal, the Sugar-Free Salted Caramel Latte is the tier built for that.

Swapping the Milk? Here’s the Honest Read on Each Option

Milk swap-ins here get graded against the same bar as everything else on this site, and that verdict doesn’t change by flavor — a clean almond milk is clean whether it’s going into this salted caramel latte or any other recipe. Rather than reprint the full rundown on every page, we keep the actual brand-by-brand findings in one place: see the Ingredient-Honest Registry for exactly which oat, soy, almond, rice, and dairy picks Pass, Fail, or carry a condition — including the specific reason each failing brand doesn’t make the cut. Short version for this recipe: stick with Kirkland Signature Organic A2 Whole Milk above, or swap in one of the registry’s Pass picks instead.

Make the Syrup First (Just Once)

This recipe assumes you already have a jar of Maple Salted Caramel Syrup in the fridge — a 15-minute batch that makes about 9 drinks’ worth and keeps for 2 weeks.

    Building the Latte

    1. Pull a double shot of espresso (about 2oz) into your cup, or brew a strong coffee/moka pot equivalent.
    2. Stir in 2 tbsp of the maple salted caramel syrup while the espresso is hot.
    3. Steam or froth 8oz of whole milk (or full-fat oat milk) to about 150°F and pour over the espresso mixture.
    4. Finish with a pinch of flaky sea salt on top of the foam. Top with whipped cream (real, not canned) and an extra drizzle of syrup if you want the full café look, then a second small pinch of salt.
Café Salted Caramel Latte vs. This Version, Honestly Compared
    Café grande salted caramel latte$6.15
    Home Ingredient-Honest Salted Caramel Latte~$1.48
    Savings per drink$4.67

The syrup itself is a one-time ~$5.75 and makes about 9 drinks — see the full syrup recipe for the breakdown.

Assumptions: grande-size drink, national-average café pricing, whole milk, real maple syrup at typical grocery pricing (~$8-9 for a 12oz bottle), flaky sea salt at typical grocery pricing. This is the most expensive and highest-calorie of our three salted caramel tiers — the honest tradeoff of a genuinely more expensive real-food sweetener without a nutrition win to go with it.

    FAQ

Is this actually a healthier salted caramel latte?

It avoids refined cane sugar, but it isn’t lower in calories or total sugar — if anything it runs slightly higher than the Standard version. “Ingredient-Honest” here means ingredient sourcing, not a nutrition upgrade.

Why is this the priciest of the three salted caramel tiers?

Real maple syrup is the bulk of the ingredient list and it’s genuinely expensive compared to bulk sugar or a sugar-free sweetener blend.

Do I need to make the syrup every time I want this drink?

No — one batch covers about 9 drinks over two weeks.
