    Ingredient-Honest Eggnog Latte

    The BYOB Team4 min1 drink (from a batch of Eggnog-Maple Syrup that makes about 10 servings)$1.35/drink219 cal/drink

Compare the 3 tiers of this drink

Same drink, three ways. Ingredient-Honest is our top recommendation -- Standard and Sugar-Free are the other options.

Uses Eggnog-Maple Syrup — make a batch ahead of time; it keeps in the fridge for a week or two, so you won't need to make it again for every drink.

    Ingredients & steps

    Ingredient-Honest

Written hot. Switch to see the iced version's ingredients and steps.

    Ingredients

    • 2oz espresso (or 1/3 cup strong coffee/moka pot equivalent)
    • 8oz whole milk (or full-fat oat milk), steamed or frothed
    • 2 tbsp Eggnog-Maple Syrup (make a batch ahead of time -- it keeps about 2 weeks in the fridge)
    • Optional: whipped cream (real heavy cream, whipped -- canned whipped topping isn't part of this tier's ingredient standard) and a dusting of fresh grated nutmeg for topping

    Steps

    1. 1.Make a batch of Eggnog-Maple Syrup ahead of time if you haven't already -- it's a 5-minute, no-cook batch that keeps about 2 weeks in the fridge.
    2. 2.Pull a double shot of espresso (or brew strong coffee) directly into your serving cup.
    3. 3.Stir in 2 tbsp of the eggnog-maple syrup while the espresso is hot until fully combined.
    4. 4.Steam or froth 8oz of whole milk or full-fat oat milk to about 150°F and pour over the espresso mixture -- whole milk (dairy or full-fat oat) gets you closest to real eggnog's thicker mouthfeel.
    5. 5.Top with whipped cream (real, not canned) and a dusting of fresh grated nutmeg if using. Serve immediately.

Not medical or nutrition advice. Calorie figures on this page are estimates based on typical ingredient values, not a lab analysis of your exact batch — they'll shift with the brand of milk, syrup, or protein powder you actually use. "Ingredient-Honest" and "sugar-free" describe what's in the recipe, not a health claim. If you're managing diabetes, a caffeine sensitivity, pregnancy, or another condition, check with a doctor or dietitian before making a recipe part of your routine. Read the full disclaimer.

Our Standard Eggnog Latte already uses real vanilla extract and real spices — so the one thing left to upgrade for a fully whole-ingredient version is the sweetener. This tier swaps the cane-sugar syrup for real maple syrup. No cooking, no dissolved sugar, and once the syrup’s made, assembly takes about 2 minutes.

    What “Ingredient-Honest” Means Here

Real maple syrup, real vanilla extract, real nutmeg and cinnamon — nothing you’d need a label to identify, and no rum extract or other flavor compounds standing in for anything. It’s not a “diet” version like our Sugar-Free tier — it’s a rebuilt-from-real-food version, and we’re upfront below about the one place it doesn’t win: calories and total sugar land about the same as the Standard version, because maple syrup isn’t meaningfully lower in either. The upgrade here is ingredient sourcing, not a nutrition hack.

Swapping the Milk? Here’s the Honest Read on Each Option

Milk swap-ins here get graded against the same bar as everything else on this site, and that verdict doesn’t change by flavor — a clean almond milk is clean whether it’s going into this eggnog latte or any other recipe. Rather than reprint the full rundown on every page, we keep the actual brand-by-brand findings in one place: see the Ingredient-Honest Registry for exactly which oat, soy, almond, rice, and dairy picks Pass, Fail, or carry a condition — including the specific reason each failing brand doesn’t make the cut. Short version for this recipe: stick with Kirkland Signature Organic A2 Whole Milk above, or swap in one of the registry’s Pass picks instead.

Make the Syrup First (Just Once)

This recipe assumes you already have a jar of Eggnog-Maple Syrup in the fridge — a 5-minute, no-cook batch that makes about 10 drinks’ worth and keeps for 2 weeks. If you haven’t made a batch yet, make that first, then come back here.

    Building the Latte

    1. Pull a double shot of espresso (about 2oz) into your cup, or brew a strong coffee/moka pot equivalent.
    2. Stir in 2 tbsp of the eggnog-maple syrup while the espresso is hot.
    3. Steam or froth 8oz of whole milk (or full-fat oat milk) to about 150°F and pour over the espresso mixture — whole milk is what gets this tier closest to real eggnog’s richer texture, the same as our Standard tier.
    4. Top with whipped cream (real, not canned) and a dusting of fresh grated nutmeg if you want the full café look.
Café Eggnog Latte vs. This Version, Honestly Compared
    Café grande eggnog latte (seasonal)$6.35
    Home Ingredient-Honest Eggnog Latte~$1.35
    Savings per drink$5.00

The syrup itself is a one-time ~$5.25 (real maple syrup is the entire cost) and makes about 10 drinks — see the full syrup recipe for the cost breakdown, which comes out to roughly $0.53 per drink in syrup alone.

Assumptions: grande-size drink, national-average café pricing for a seasonal holiday specialty latte, whole milk, real maple syrup at typical grocery pricing (~$8-9 for a 12oz bottle). This is the most honest comparison we can give — real maple costs more than a cane-sugar syrup, which is exactly why this tier’s savings are the smallest of the three eggnog recipes, even though they’re still substantial. And like every version of this drink, the savings window is real but short — roughly an 8-week Thanksgiving-through-New-Year’s stretch, not year-round.

Why This Costs More Than the Other Two Tiers (and Why That’s Fine)

Being straight about the math: this version saves about $0.45 less per drink than the Standard syrup version and about $0.23 less than the Sugar-Free version, because real maple syrup costs more than sugar or a sugar-free sweetener. It’s also not lower in calories or total sugar than the Standard version — maple runs about the same per tablespoon as cane sugar. What you’re actually paying the premium for is ingredient sourcing: no refined sugar, no flavor extracts beyond real vanilla, nothing you couldn’t name out loud. This is the tier we recommend by default — pick it because you want that, not because we’re pretending it’s the cheapest or lowest-calorie option. It isn’t; the Standard version is cheaper and the Sugar-Free version is lower-calorie.

    FAQ

Do I need to make the syrup every time I want this drink?

No — that’s why it’s its own recipe now. One batch keeps about 2 weeks in the fridge and covers roughly 10 drinks, so this page is just the quick assembly step.

Is this recipe actually lower in sugar than the Standard version?

Not meaningfully — maple syrup and cane sugar carry a similar amount of sugar per serving. If sugar content specifically is your priority, see the Sugar-Free Eggnog Latte instead, which is built to minimize it.

Why is this version more expensive than the other two?

Real maple syrup simply costs more per serving than sugar or a sugar-free sweetener does. It’s still a large saving over a café eggnog latte — just the smallest saving of the three tiers, and we’d rather tell you that upfront than round up the number.
