    Frozen Dirty Coke

    The BYOB Team5 min1 drink (16oz)~$0.51/drink -- just Coke and half-and-half, blended with ice180 cal/serving

    Ingredients & steps

    Standard

    Ingredients

    • 12oz Coke, cold
    • 1oz (2 tbsp) half-and-half
    • 2 cups ice

    Steps

    1. 1.Pour the Coke and half-and-half into a blender.
    2. 2.Add the ice.
    3. 3.Blend on LOW speed only, and don't fill the blender jar more than half full -- carbonated soda releases its CO2 fast under a spinning blade, and blending it on high or overfilling the jar will foam over the top and out the lid. Start low, pulse a few times, then work up to a slightly higher speed only once the initial fizz has settled.
    4. 4.Blend until slushy, about 15-20 seconds total -- less time than a typical frappé, since you're mostly breaking up ice, not fully liquefying it.
    5. 5.Pour into a 16oz glass and serve immediately with a wide straw -- it separates and goes flat faster than a dairy-based frappé, since the soda's carbonation is actively escaping the whole time.

Not medical or nutrition advice. Calorie figures on this page are estimates based on typical ingredient values, not a lab analysis of your exact batch — they'll shift with the brand of milk, syrup, or protein powder you actually use. "Ingredient-Honest" and "sugar-free" describe what's in the recipe, not a health claim. If you're managing diabetes, a caffeine sensitivity, pregnancy, or another condition, check with a doctor or dietitian before making a recipe part of your routine. Read the full disclaimer.

Dirty sodas are normally a pour-over-ice build — this is the blended version, taking Coke and a cream splash and turning it into an actual slush instead. There’s no coffee anywhere in this drink, same as every other dirty soda on the site; it’s a soda-and-cream build, not a coffee one.

The One Thing That Actually Matters Here: Blend on Low

Carbonated soda in a blender is not the same as flat liquid in a blender. The spinning blade agitates the CO2 dissolved in the Coke and releases it fast — if you blend on high speed, or fill the jar more than half full, the foam will expand faster than the lid can contain it and you’ll get soda foam out the top and down the sides of your blender. Two fixes, both simple: blend on low speed, and never fill the jar more than half full with the Coke-and-ice mixture. Pulse a few times first to let the initial fizz settle before working up to a steady blend.

    Building the Frozen Dirty Coke

    1. Pour 12oz Coke and 1oz half-and-half into the blender.
    2. Add 2 cups of ice — keeping the jar no more than half full.
    3. Blend on low, pulsing at first, until slushy (about 15-20 seconds).
    4. Pour into a 16oz glass and serve immediately with a wide straw.
Drive-Thru Frozen Soda vs. Home Frozen Dirty Coke
    Drive-thru frozen/slushed Coke with a cream add-in (small)~$4.75
Home frozen dirty Coke (Coke, half-and-half, ice)~$0.51
    Savings per drink$4.24

Assumptions: 12oz pour from a 2-liter bottle of Coca-Cola ($2.28, national-average grocery price, non-sale), a 1oz half-and-half splash (quart at $3.49), and a representative drive-thru/soda-shop price for a small frozen soda with a cream add-in. At 5 of these a week over the site’s standard 48-week year, that’s roughly $1,018/year back in your pocket versus buying it out.

    Swaps & Notes

    • No coffee, and that’s correct. Dirty sodas are a soda-and-cream build, not a coffee drink — if you want an actual coffee slush, see any of our Frappé recipes instead.
    • Foamed over anyway? You likely blended on high or filled the jar past the halfway line — try again with less soda per batch and a slower start.
    • Want a flavored version instead of plain Coke? See our Dirty Blonde Vanilla Coke or Dirty Brown Sugar Coke for the poured-over-ice, syrup-flavored versions — blending either of those works the same way, just add the syrup to the blender along with the soda and follow the same low-speed technique.
    • Prefer it poured over ice instead of blended? That’s just a Dirty Blonde Vanilla Coke-style build without the syrup — Coke, half-and-half, ice, no blender required.

    FAQ

Why does this foam over when I blend it?

Almost always one of two things: blending on too high a speed, or filling the blender jar more than half full. Carbonated soda releases its dissolved CO2 fast once a blade starts agitating it — low speed and a half-full jar (or less) keep that expansion contained instead of pushing it out past the lid.

Can I use a diet or zero-sugar Coke instead?

Yes — the blending technique and the cream splash work exactly the same regardless of which Coke variant you use. The cost and calorie math above assumes regular Coke; a diet version will run close to $0 in added sugar and calories from the soda itself.

    Does this go flat quickly?

Faster than most frappés, yes — the whole point of the blending step is breaking up ice while the soda is actively losing its carbonation, so this is very much a serve-and-drink-immediately recipe, more so than our dairy-based frappés.
