Dutch Bros White Zombie (Copycat)
Uses White Mocha Sauce — make a batch ahead of time; it keeps in the fridge for a week or two, so you won't need to make it again for every drink.
Ingredients & steps
StandardIngredients
- 2oz espresso (or 2 tsp instant espresso dissolved in 2oz hot water)
- 1 tbsp White Mocha Sauce (make a batch ahead of time -- it keeps about 1 week in the fridge)
- 1 tbsp Vanilla Syrup (make a batch ahead of time -- it keeps about 2 weeks in the fridge)
- Ice
- 6oz half-and-half, cold
Steps
- 1.Make a batch each of White Mocha Sauce and Vanilla Syrup ahead of time if you haven't already.
- 2.Pull a double shot of espresso (about 2oz) into a heat-safe cup -- not directly into your serving glass.
- 3.Stir in 1 tbsp White Mocha Sauce and 1 tbsp Vanilla Syrup while the espresso is still hot, until fully combined.
- 4.Fill a 16oz glass with ice, then pour the espresso mixture directly over the ice.
- 5.Pour 6oz cold half-and-half over the ice -- this is what makes it a "breve" instead of a regular latte -- and stir gently to combine.
- 6.Serve immediately with a straw.

The White Zombie is a real, named item on Dutch Bros’ secret menu — independent secret-menu roundups agree on the build: a vanilla breve with white chocolate. It isn’t on Dutch Bros’ printed menu, and secret-menu specs can vary by location and barista, but the combination itself is consistently described the same way across multiple independent sources.
What “Breve” Actually Means Here
A breve is an espresso drink made with half-and-half in place of milk — that’s genuinely all the word means, and it’s where the half-and-half in this recipe comes from. It isn’t a separate flavor stirred in on top of a regular latte; it’s the dairy itself, richer and less diluted than milk, poured straight over the espresso and syrups instead of steamed milk.
How This Is Different From Our White Mocha
This site already has a real White Mocha — espresso, real White Mocha Sauce, and steamed milk. This drink is a different build on purpose, in two ways: it layers 1 tbsp Vanilla Syrup on top of the white chocolate, which the regular White Mocha doesn’t have at all, and it swaps steamed milk for cold half-and-half, which is richer and poured over ice rather than heated and frothed. The result tastes rounder and less purely white-chocolate-forward than a straight White Mocha, with vanilla filling in underneath it.
Use the White Mocha if you want the straightforward white-chocolate-and-espresso drink, hot or iced, with steamed milk. Use this recipe if you want the Dutch Bros-style vanilla-layered, half-and-half version instead.
Building the Drink
- Make a batch each of White Mocha Sauce and Vanilla Syrup ahead of time if you haven’t already.
- Pull a double shot of espresso (about 2oz) into a heat-safe cup.
- Stir in 1 tbsp White Mocha Sauce and 1 tbsp Vanilla Syrup while the espresso is still hot.
- Fill a 16oz glass with ice and pour the espresso mixture over it.
- Pour 6oz cold half-and-half over the ice and stir gently.
Assumptions: medium-size drink, a representative Dutch Bros flavored-breve price (the White Zombie itself has no posted price since it’s an off-menu order, so this uses the chain’s standard flavored-breve pricing as the nearest real comparable), real White Mocha Sauce and Vanilla Syrup batches, and half-and-half at typical grocery pricing (~$3.49/quart). At 5 drinks a week over the site’s standard 48-week year, that’s roughly $1,126/year back in your pocket versus ordering it out.
Swaps & Notes
- No espresso machine? Dissolve 2 tsp instant espresso in 2oz hot water as a stand-in — that’s the original card’s own method, and it works fine here.
- Only have milk, not half-and-half? It’ll work, but you’ll lose the richer, less-diluted breve texture that’s the actual point of this drink — see our White Mocha if you’d rather build it with steamed milk from the start.
- Want it hot? Dutch Bros sells hot breves too, but the White Zombie is most commonly described as an iced order — build it the same way but with steamed half-and-half poured hot instead of over ice, if you want to try it.
- Watching sugar? This is Standard tier only for now.

FAQ
Is the White Zombie actually on Dutch Bros’ menu?
Not the printed one — it’s a secret/off-menu order. Independent secret-menu roundups consistently describe it the same way (a vanilla breve with white chocolate), which is what this recipe copies, but it’s not an officially listed drink and specs can vary by location.
What makes this different from a regular White Mocha?
Two things: Vanilla Syrup layered on top of the white chocolate, which our regular White Mocha doesn’t include, and half-and-half in place of steamed milk, poured cold over ice instead of heated and frothed.
What is a “breve,” exactly?
An espresso drink made with half-and-half instead of milk. That’s the whole definition — it’s richer and less diluted than a milk-based latte, and it’s where this drink gets its dairy from.
Can I order this at Dutch Bros by name?
You can ask for it by name at the counter — “White Zombie” or “vanilla breve with white chocolate” — since it’s a known secret-menu item, but because it’s off-menu, results can vary by location and barista.
