Blue Lagoon Energy Cooler (Energy Drink Version)
Uses Blue Curaçao Syrup (Non-Alcoholic) — make a batch ahead of time; it keeps in the fridge for a week or two, so you won't need to make it again for every drink.
Ingredients & steps
StandardIngredients
- 8oz sugar-free energy drink (an unflavored or citrus/lemon-lime variety works best here)
- 2 tbsp Blue Curaçao Syrup (make a batch ahead of time -- it keeps about 2 weeks in the fridge)
- 2oz real lemon juice (bottled 100% juice or fresh-squeezed)
- Ice (enough to fill a 16oz glass)
Steps
- 1.Make a batch of Blue Curaçao Syrup ahead of time if you haven't already -- it keeps about 2 weeks in the fridge.
- 2.Fill a 16oz glass with ice.
- 3.Pour in the lemon juice and blue curaçao syrup, stirring to combine.
- 4.Top with the energy drink, pouring gently. Stir once more and serve immediately with a straw.
Not medical or nutrition advice. Calorie figures on this page are estimates based on typical ingredient values, not a lab analysis of your exact batch — they'll shift with the brand of milk, syrup, or protein powder you actually use. "Ingredient-Honest" and "sugar-free" describe what's in the recipe, not a health claim. If you're managing diabetes, a caffeine sensitivity, pregnancy, or another condition, check with a doctor or dietitian before making a recipe part of your routine. Read the full disclaimer.
One naming note before anything else: “Blue Lagoon” is a generic, decades-old mocktail name — blue curaçao syrup, lemon-lime, and soda, traditionally — the same category of public-domain drink name as a Shirley Temple or a Moscow Mule. It isn’t a trademarked menu item owned by any single coffee chain or brand, which is why we’re comfortable using it directly. This version swaps the traditional soda for a sugar-free energy drink, matching the caffeine-drink pattern of our other Energy Cooler recipes, and it has zero alcohol — both the syrup and the juice are alcohol-free.
Make the Syrup First (Just Once)
This recipe assumes you already have a jar of Blue Curaçao Syrup in the fridge — it keeps about 2 weeks and covers many drinks. If you haven’t made a batch yet, go do that first, then come back here.
Building the Drink
- Fill a 16oz glass with ice.
- Pour in 2oz lemon juice and 2 tbsp of the blue curaçao syrup, stirring to combine.
- Top with 8oz sugar-free energy drink, poured gently.
- Stir once more and serve.
That’s a single, ordinary energy-drink dose — roughly a strong double espresso shot’s worth, and nothing stacked on top of it, unlike our caffeine-boosted or nitro-plus-energy-drink builds.
Assumptions: a 16oz drive-thru specialty-flavor energy drink (representative pricing, varies by region/chain), a single 12oz sugar-free energy drink can, our own Blue Curaçao Syrup batch cost, and bottled 100% lemon juice at typical grocery pricing. At 5 of these a week over the site’s standard 48-week year, that’s roughly $1,183/year back in your pocket versus buying it out.
Swaps & Notes
- Prefer lime instead of lemon? A straight swap — 2oz lime juice works identically in the math and is arguably closer to some classic Blue Lagoon recipes.
- Want it less sweet? Drop to 1 tbsp of the blue curaçao syrup — it still gives you real color and flavor, just less of both.
- Buying energy drinks by the case usually brings the per-can cost down 10-15% from the single-can price used above.
- Prefer a plain orange version instead? See our Orange Energy Cooler — same energy-drink base, real orange juice, no syrup.

FAQ
Is there any alcohol in this?
None. Both the syrup and the juice are alcohol-free, and the energy drink obviously carries none either — this is a fully non-alcoholic mocktail-style drink, matching what the syrup itself is built to be.
Is “Blue Lagoon” a trademarked drink name?
No — it’s a generic, decades-old mocktail/cocktail name in wide public use, not a name owned by any single coffee chain, restaurant, or brand. We picked it because it’s the accurate, recognizable name for this exact flavor combination (blue curaçao, citrus, and a fizzy base), the same way “Moscow Mule” or “Shirley Temple” describe a drink without belonging to anyone.
Where does the blue color come from?
Entirely from our homemade Blue Curaçao Syrup — see that recipe for the full method. It’s food coloring in a sugar-and-orange-extract syrup, not a special dye added at this stage.
