    Ingredient-Honest Honey Oatmilk Latte

The BYOB Team4 min1 drink (from a batch of Raw Honey Syrup that makes about 10 servings)$2.97/drink207 cal/drink

Compare the 3 tiers of this drink

Same drink, three ways. Ingredient-Honest is our top recommendation -- Standard and Sugar-Free are the other options.

Uses Raw Honey Syrup — make a batch ahead of time; it keeps in the fridge for a week or two, so you won't need to make it again for every drink.

    Ingredients & steps

    Ingredient-Honest

Written hot. Switch to see the iced version's ingredients and steps.

    Ingredients

    • 2oz espresso (or 1/3 cup strong coffee/moka pot equivalent)
    • 8oz oat milk, steamed or frothed
    • 2 tbsp Raw Honey Syrup (make a batch ahead of time -- it keeps about 3 weeks in the fridge)
    • Optional: a light drizzle of raw honey syrup on top, for garnish

    Steps

    1. 1.Make a batch of Raw Honey Syrup ahead of time if you haven't already -- it's a 5-minute, no-cook batch that keeps about 3 weeks in the fridge.
    2. 2.Pull a double shot of espresso (or brew strong coffee) directly into your serving cup.
    3. 3.Stir in 2 tbsp of the raw honey syrup while the espresso is hot until fully combined.
    4. 4.Steam or froth 8oz of oat milk to about 150°F and pour over the espresso mixture.
    5. 5.Drizzle a little extra syrup on top if using. Serve immediately.

Not medical or nutrition advice. Calorie figures on this page are estimates based on typical ingredient values, not a lab analysis of your exact batch — they'll shift with the brand of milk, syrup, or protein powder you actually use. "Ingredient-Honest" and "sugar-free" describe what's in the recipe, not a health claim. If you're managing diabetes, a caffeine sensitivity, pregnancy, or another condition, check with a doctor or dietitian before making a recipe part of your routine. Read the full disclaimer.

Our Standard Honey Oatmilk Latte is already just honey and oat milk — no refined sugar in the recipe itself. What this tier upgrades is the honey’s sourcing: raw, minimally processed (ideally local) honey in place of a standard blended, pasteurized grocery honey. No cooking, and once the syrup’s made, assembly takes about 2 minutes.

    What “Ingredient-Honest” Means Here

One real, traceable ingredient doing the sweetening: raw honey, ideally from a local source. It’s not a “diet” version like our Sugar-Free tier — it’s the same honey flavor, sourced closer to unprocessed. We’re upfront below about the one place it doesn’t win: calories and sugar land exactly the same as the Standard version, because raw honey isn’t meaningfully lower in either. The upgrade here is ingredient sourcing, not a nutrition hack.

Swapping the Milk? Here’s the Honest Read on Each Option

This recipe’s default milk already is the registry’s Pass pick for oat milk — Elmhurst 1925 Unsweetened Milked Oats, not the Oatly Original most other recipes on this site have to swap away from — so there’s nothing to upgrade on that front. For every other option (soy, almond, rice, or regular dairy), the verdict doesn’t change by flavor, so we keep the full brand-by-brand findings in one place: see the Ingredient-Honest Registry for exactly which picks Pass, Fail, or carry a condition, and why.

Make the Syrup First (Just Once)

This recipe assumes you already have a jar of Raw Honey Syrup in the fridge — a 5-minute batch (raw honey thinned with gently warm water) that makes about 10 drinks’ worth and keeps for 3 weeks. If you haven’t made a batch yet, make that first, then come back here.

    Building the Latte

    1. Pull a double shot of espresso (about 2oz) into your cup, or brew a strong coffee/moka pot equivalent.
    2. Stir in 2 tbsp of the raw honey syrup while the espresso is hot.
    3. Steam or froth 8oz of oat milk to about 150°F and pour over the espresso mixture.
    4. Drizzle a little extra syrup on top if you want the full café look.
Café Honey Oatmilk Latte vs. This Version, Honestly Compared
    Café grande honey oatmilk latte$6.75
    Home Ingredient-Honest Honey Oatmilk Latte~$2.97
    Savings per drink$3.78

The syrup itself is a one-time ~$9.50 (raw/local honey is the entire cost) and makes about 10 drinks — see the full syrup recipe for the cost breakdown, which comes out to roughly $0.95 per drink in syrup alone.

Assumptions: grande-size drink, national-average café pricing including the typical oat-milk upcharge, oat milk, and raw/local honey at typical farmers-market or specialty-grocery pricing (~$9-12 for a 12oz jar). This is the most honest comparison we can give — raw/local honey costs more than a standard blended grocery honey, which is exactly why this tier’s savings are the smallest of the three, even though they’re still substantial.

Why This Costs More Than the Other Two Tiers (and Why That’s Fine)

Being straight about the math: this version saves about $1.39 less per drink than the Standard version and about $1.76 less than the Sugar-Free version. That gap is bigger than it used to look on this page — a 2026-10-06 correction fixed this recipe’s default milk cost, which had been carrying Oatly’s $0.66/cup figure instead of Elmhurst 1925 Unsweetened Milked Oats’ real, verified $1.80/cup (Elmhurst sells in smaller, pricier 32 fl oz bottles, not the 52-64 fl oz cartons most oat milk comes in). None of that is about the honey — raw and local honey costing more than a standard blended grocery honey is still part of the gap too, just a smaller part of it than the milk now is. It’s also not lower in calories or sugar than the Standard version — raw honey runs about the same per tablespoon as any other honey. What you’re actually paying the premium for is sourcing (both the honey and the milk), not fewer calories. This is the tier we recommend by default — pick it because you want that, not because we’re pretending it’s the cheapest or lowest-sugar option. It isn’t; the Standard version is cheaper and the Sugar-Free version is lower-sugar (though not a true zero — see that recipe’s honest note on why).

    FAQ

Do I need to make the syrup every time I want this drink?

No — that’s why it’s its own recipe now. One batch keeps about 3 weeks in the fridge and covers roughly 10 drinks, so this page is just the quick assembly step.

Is this recipe actually lower in sugar than the Standard version?

No — raw honey and standard grocery honey carry essentially the same sugar per serving. If sugar content specifically is your priority, see the Sugar-Free Honey Oatmilk Latte instead, and read its honest note on why honey specifically can’t go fully sugar-free.

Why is this version more expensive than the other two?

Raw and local honey simply cost more per serving than a standard blended grocery honey or a sugar-free sweetener. It’s still a large saving over a café honey oatmilk latte — just the smallest saving of the three tiers, and we’d rather tell you that upfront than round up the number.
