    Dirty Cardamom Rose Sprite

The BYOB Team3 min1 drink (from a batch of Cardamom Rose Syrup, which makes about 12 servings at 2 tbsp each -- this recipe uses half a serving)~$0.59/drink once the syrup batch is made (soda + half-and-half + half a syrup serving; the syrup batch itself is a separate one-time cost -- see the syrup's own recipe page)213 cal/serving

Uses Cardamom Rose Syrup — make a batch ahead of time; it keeps in the fridge for a week or two, so you won't need to make it again for every drink.

    Ingredients & steps

    Standard

    Ingredients

    • 12oz Sprite, cold
    • 1 tbsp Cardamom Rose Syrup (make a batch ahead of time -- it keeps about 2 weeks in the fridge)
    • 1oz (2 tbsp) half-and-half
    • Ice (enough to fill a 16oz glass)

    Steps

    1. 1.Make a batch of Cardamom Rose Syrup ahead of time if you haven't already -- keeps about 2 weeks in the fridge.
    2. 2.Fill a 16oz glass with ice.
    3. 3.Pour 1 tbsp of the syrup directly over the ice.
    4. 4.Pour 12oz cold Sprite over the syrup and stir gently to dissolve it -- syrup mixes into cold soda more slowly than into hot espresso, so give it a real stir, not just a swirl.
    5. 5.Top with 1oz (2 tbsp) half-and-half -- pour it slowly over the back of a spoon so it sits in a visible layer instead of a starter cup, or stir it in fully if you prefer it blended. Serve immediately with a straw.

Rose-and-citrus is a pairing with real history — rose lemonade shows up across South Asian and Middle Eastern menus long before any soda-shop trend picked it up. This drink follows that same logic: cardamom rose syrup for the floral warmth, a lemon-lime soda standing in for the lemonade base it’s traditionally built on.

    Make the Syrup First

This recipe assumes a jar of Cardamom Rose Syrup is already made — same syrup as the Cardamom Rose Latte, holding about 2 weeks refrigerated.

    Building the Drink

    1. Fill a 16oz glass with ice and pour 1 tbsp syrup directly over it.
    2. Pour in the 12oz of cold Sprite slowly, down the side of the glass rather than straight down — citrus sodas foam quickly over a syrup, and a slow pour keeps it from running over. Stir thoroughly to dissolve.
    3. Finish with 1oz (2 tbsp) half-and-half, over the back of a spoon for a layered look or stirred straight through. Serve immediately with a straw.
Dirty Soda Shop vs. Home Version
Dirty-soda-shop or Dunkin’-style flavored fountain drink (small, tax included)$4.79
Home dirty cardamom rose sprite (soda, syrup, half-and-half)~$0.59
    Savings per drink$4.20

Assumptions: 12oz pour from a 2-liter bottle of Sprite ($2.28, national-average grocery price, non-sale), a 1oz half-and-half splash (quart at $3.49), and national-average dirty-soda-shop/Dunkin’-style pricing for a single-flavor small fountain drink with a cream add-in. See the full Cardamom Rose Syrup recipe for its batch price and method. At 5 of these a week over the standard 48-week year, that’s roughly $1,008/year back versus buying it out.

    Swaps & Notes

    • Both flavors are already balanced in the syrup itself, so there’s no ratio to fiddle with — pour the full 1 tbsp as written rather than trying to weight it toward one flavor or the other.
    • Not a coffee drink — want this same rose-and-cardamom flavor with espresso instead? That’s the Cardamom Rose Latte.
    • Cutting sugar? Sugar-Free Cardamom Rose Syrup swaps in at the same 1 tbsp — consider a diet Sprite too if the soda’s own sugar is the bigger concern.

    FAQ

Is rosewater flavor an acquired taste?

Straight rosewater in large amounts can read as soapy to some people, but Cardamom Rose Syrup dials the rosewater back and lets the cardamom carry more of the flavor — it lands closer to chai-adjacent warmth with a floral edge than to perfume.

Where does this flavor combination actually come from?

Rose-and-citrus drinks are a real tradition, not an invented soda-shop flavor — rose lemonade and rose sharbat show up across South Asian and Middle Eastern menus. This recipe borrows that pairing logic and swaps in a lemon-lime soda for the lemonade base.

Can I use a different soda than Sprite?

You can, but it moves this one further from its roots than most swaps on this list — the floral-and-citrus pairing depends on Sprite’s lemon-lime profile specifically. A cola or root beer would mute the rose note under a heavier, sweeter base instead of lifting it.
