Uses Maple Horchata Concentrate (Clean-Ingredient) — make a batch ahead of time; it keeps in the fridge for a week or two, so you won't need to make it again for every drink.

Ingredients & steps

Clean-Ingredient

Written hot. Switch to see the iced version's ingredients and steps.

Ingredients

  • 2oz espresso (or 1/3 cup strong coffee/moka pot equivalent)
  • 2 tbsp Maple Horchata Concentrate (make a batch ahead of time -- it keeps about 4 days in the fridge)
  • 8oz rice milk (or dairy/oat/almond milk), steamed or frothed
  • Optional: a dusting of cinnamon for topping

Steps

  1. 1.Make a batch of Maple Horchata Concentrate ahead of time if you haven't already -- the rice needs 4+ hours to soak, plus an 8-10 minute infuse, and it keeps about 4 days in the fridge.
  2. 2.Pull a double shot of espresso (or brew strong coffee) directly into your serving cup.
  3. 3.Stir in 2 tbsp of the maple horchata concentrate while the espresso is hot until fully combined.
  4. 4.Steam or froth 8oz of rice milk to about 150°F and pour over the espresso mixture.
  5. 5.Dust with cinnamon if using. Serve immediately.

Not medical or nutrition advice. Calorie figures on this page are estimates based on typical ingredient values, not a lab analysis of your exact batch — they'll shift with the brand of milk, syrup, or protein powder you actually use. "Clean-ingredient" and "sugar-free" describe what's in the recipe, not a health claim. If you're managing diabetes, a caffeine sensitivity, pregnancy, or another condition, check with a doctor or dietitian before making a recipe part of your routine. Read the full disclaimer.

Our Standard Horchata Latte already leans on real rice and real vanilla – so the upgrades left for this tier are the sweetener and how the cinnamon gets into the concentrate. This version swaps the cane sugar for real maple and ground cinnamon for whole sticks slowly infused in. Once the concentrate’s made, assembly takes about 2 minutes, same as every other tier.

What “Clean-Ingredient” Means Here

Soaked rice, real maple, whole cinnamon, and vanilla extract doing all the work – nothing you’d need a label to identify, and (if you skip the store-bought rice-milk shortcut on the concentrate recipe) no gums or stabilizers either. We’re upfront about where it doesn’t win, same as every Clean-Ingredient recipe on this site: calories and total sugar land close to the Standard version, because maple syrup isn’t meaningfully lower in either. The upgrade here is ingredient sourcing and a rounder cinnamon flavor, not a nutrition hack.

Specialty Café Horchata Latte vs. This Version, Honestly Compared
Specialty/third-wave café horchata latte (12-16oz)$6.25
Home Clean-Ingredient Horchata Latte$1.19
Savings per drink$5.06

The concentrate itself is a one-time ~$3.85 and makes about 9 drinks – see the full concentrate recipe for the cost breakdown, which comes out to roughly $0.43 per drink in concentrate alone.

Assumptions: a 12-16oz specialty-café horchata latte (see the Standard latte’s assumptions note on why this isn’t anchored to a single national chain price), real maple syrup and whole cinnamon sticks at typical grocery pricing, rice milk at typical grocery pricing. This is the most honest comparison we can give – real maple, whole spices, and from-scratch rice milk cost more than a quick sugar concentrate, which is exactly why this tier’s savings are the smallest of the three horchata recipes, even though they’re still substantial.

Why This Costs More Than the Other Two Tiers (and Why That’s Fine)

This version saves about $0.31 less per drink than the Standard concentrate version and about $0.18 less than the Sugar-Free version, because real maple syrup and whole cinnamon sticks cost more than sugar or a sugar-free sweetener blend. It’s also not lower in calories or total sugar than the Standard version. What you’re paying the premium for is ingredient sourcing and technique – no refined sugar, no ground-spice sediment, and (if you skip the carton shortcut) no additives from store-bought rice milk either. This is the tier we recommend by default – pick it because you want that, not because we’re pretending it’s the cheapest or lowest-calorie option. It isn’t; the Standard version is cheaper and the Sugar-Free version is lower in calories.

  • Cost: ~$1.19/drink vs. ~$6.25 specialty-café equivalent

FAQ

Do I need to make the concentrate every time I want this drink?

No – that’s why it’s its own recipe now. One batch keeps about 4 days in the fridge and covers roughly 9 drinks, so this page is just the quick assembly step.

Is this recipe actually lower in sugar than the Standard version?

Not meaningfully – maple syrup and cane sugar carry a similar amount of sugar per serving. If sugar content specifically is your priority, see the Sugar-Free Horchata Latte instead, which is built to minimize it.

Why is this version more expensive than the other two?

Real maple syrup and whole cinnamon sticks simply cost more per serving than sugar or a sugar-free sweetener does. It’s still a large saving over a specialty café horchata latte – just the smallest saving of the three tiers, and we’d rather tell you that upfront than round up the number.
