Uses Pumpkin-Maple Base (Clean-Ingredient) — make a batch ahead of time; it keeps in the fridge for a week or two, so you won't need to make it again for every drink.

Ingredients & steps

Clean-Ingredient

Written hot. Switch to see the iced version's ingredients and steps.

Ingredients

  • 2oz espresso (or 1/3 cup strong coffee/moka pot equivalent)
  • 8oz whole milk (or full-fat oat milk), steamed or frothed
  • 2 tbsp Pumpkin-Maple Base (make a batch ahead of time -- it keeps about 1 week in the fridge)
  • Optional: a light dusting of cinnamon and a cinnamon stick to stir

Steps

  1. 1.Make a batch of Pumpkin-Maple Base ahead of time if you haven't already -- it's a 5-minute, no-cook batch that keeps about a week in the fridge.
  2. 2.Pull a double shot of espresso (or brew strong coffee) directly into your serving cup.
  3. 3.Stir in 2 tbsp of the pumpkin-maple base while the espresso is hot, whisking until fully combined (it takes a bit more stirring than a syrup since it's thicker).
  4. 4.Steam or froth 8oz of whole milk or full-fat oat milk to about 150°F and pour over the espresso mixture.
  5. 5.Finish with a light dusting of cinnamon and a cinnamon stick if you want the presentation. Serve immediately.

Calorie figures on this page are estimates based on typical ingredient values, not a lab analysis of your exact batch — they'll shift with the brand of milk, syrup, or protein powder you actually use. "Clean-ingredient" and "sugar-free" describe what's in the recipe, not a health claim. Most pumpkin spice latte recipes — including our own Copycat version — are built around a syrup. This one skips the syrup step entirely: real pumpkin puree and real maple syrup, whisked into a base, then stirred straight into espresso. No thickeners, no long ingredient list, and no artificial anything. Once the base is made, assembling the drink itself takes about 2 minutes.

What “Clean-Ingredient” Means Here

We mean it plainly: this recipe uses only ingredients you could name out loud without a label to read from — canned pumpkin, maple syrup, whole milk, spices, vanilla extract. No gums, no stabilizers, no natural-flavor blends standing in for actual pumpkin. It’s not a “diet” version like our Sugar-Free tier; it’s a rebuilt-from-real-food version, and it happens to also land lower in refined sugar because maple and whole pumpkin are doing the sweetening and flavor work instead of a processed syrup.

Make the Base First (Just Once)

This recipe assumes you already have a jar of Pumpkin-Maple Base in the fridge — a 5-minute, no-cook batch that makes about 6 drinks’ worth and keeps for about a week. If you haven’t made a batch yet, make that first, then come back here.

Building the Latte

  1. Pull a double shot of espresso (about 2oz) into your cup, or brew a strong coffee/moka pot equivalent.
  2. Stir in 2 tbsp of the pumpkin-maple base while the espresso is hot — it’s thicker than a syrup, so give it a good 15-20 seconds of stirring to fully combine.
  3. Steam or froth 8oz of whole milk (or full-fat oat milk, which holds up better than thinner non-dairy options) to about 150°F and pour over the espresso mixture.
  4. Finish with a light dusting of cinnamon and a cinnamon stick if you want the full presentation.
Café PSL vs. This Version, Honestly Compared
Café grande PSL$6.65
Home Clean-Ingredient PSL~$1.60
Savings per drink$5.05

The base itself is a one-time ~$2.10 (real maple syrup is the priciest ingredient here) and makes about 6 drinks — see the full base recipe for the method and cost breakdown, which comes out to roughly $0.35 per drink in base alone.

Assumptions: grande-size drink, national-average café pricing, whole milk, real maple syrup at typical grocery pricing (~$8-9 for a 12oz bottle). This is the most honest comparison we can give — real maple and real pumpkin cost more than a simple sugar syrup, which is exactly why this tier’s savings are the smallest of the three PSL recipes, even though they’re still substantial.

Why This Costs a Little More Than the Other Two Tiers (and Why That’s Fine)

Being straight about the math, the way we try to be everywhere on this site: this version saves about $0.70 less per drink than the Copycat version and about $0.45 less than the Sugar-Free version, because real maple syrup and extra pumpkin cost more than a sugar or sweetener syrup. That’s not a flaw in the recipe — it’s the honest tradeoff of using whole ingredients instead of a concentrated syrup. You’re still saving over $5 a drink against the café version, and you’re getting there with an ingredient list you could read to a kid without any of it sounding like a chemistry set. This is the tier we recommend by default — pick it because you want that, not because we’re pretending it’s the cheapest option — it isn’t, the Copycat version is.

FAQ

Do I need to make the base every time I want this drink?

No — that’s why it’s its own recipe now. One batch keeps about a week in the fridge and covers roughly 6 drinks, so this page is just the quick assembly step.

Is this recipe actually lower in sugar than the classic version?

Yes, though that’s not its main point — maple syrup and pumpkin puree bring less total sugar per serving than the sugar-syrup version, and none of it is processed sugar. If sugar content specifically is your priority, see the Sugar-Free Pumpkin Spice Latte instead, which is built to minimize it further.

Why is this version more expensive than the other two?

Real maple syrup and extra pumpkin puree simply cost more per serving than a sugar or sweetener syrup does. It’s still a large saving over a café PSL — just the smallest saving of the three tiers, and we’d rather tell you that upfront than round up the number.
